Emphatic, a perfect 2-for-2 entering this race, defeats Grade 1 winner Summer Starlet in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes. It was a two-horse race from start to finish, but Emphatic dug deep and pulled away late under Tyler Gaffalione to clinch her @BreedersCup spot.
What a ride by Luis Saez, guiding Serena’s Ghost down to the rail in deep stretch for the win in the Grade 2 Jessamine Stakes. She has now earned a spot in the @BreedersCup Juvenile Turf.
Irad Ortiz Jr.’s win aboard Nakatomi in the Grade 2 Ogden Phoenix marks his first victory since returning from an injury that sidelined him in early August during the Saratoga meet.
@iradortiz
Nakatomi wins the Grade 2 Ogden Phoenix in convincing fashion. The 7-year-old son of Firing Line is trained by Wesley Ward and, with the victory, punches his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. A spectacular horse who seems to love Keeneland.
Kingside and his powerful late kick roll past the leaders to take Keeneland’s sixth race for trainer Brendan Walsh.
Kingside is the fifth $10-plus payout of the day on Keeneland’s opening-day card.
La Puma, a daughter of Not This Time, picked up her fourth win in eight starts for trainer Rey Hernandez. The victory gives Hernandez his first winner of the Keeneland fall meet.
Cognition was impressive in her second start back, winning the fourth race off a lengthy 14-month layoff and giving trainer Chad Brown and jockey Flavien Prat back-to-back wins on Keeneland’s opening-day card.
Rainfall is expected to hit Lexington tomorrow during Keeneland’s opening-day card. Expect all turf races to be taken off the turf and the fields to be heavily affected. Hopefully, the weather shifts elsewhere to make opening day a little less gloomy.
Today is opening day at Keeneland Race Course and the start of Fall Stars Weekend. The 10-race card is highlighted by a pair of Grade 1s:
Race 8: Jessamine Stakes
Race 9: Darley Alcibiades Stakes presented by @keenelandsales
Updates to follow. Good luck!
Boom! Minaret Station (5-1) gives trainer Will Walden a Breeders’ Cup contender this year after defeating multiple graded stakes winners in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic. The added distance and firm turf seem to be all that Minaret Station needed.
Minaret Station, trained by Will Walden, aims to win his first Grade 1 today in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park.
After losing his last three races by a combined two lengths, Minaret Station will finally get the 1 1/2-mile distance and firm turf that he seems to need.

@PavlaNygaard Great story!
One of my favorite horses ever is Shoot It True, who is currently still in training for Wesley Ward. She was foaled at the farm I work at a few years before I got there. Special filly. The name Play It True reminded me of her, so thanks for that.

@cooter696969@saksuds There is cheating in every aspect of life, but the question that we, as racing fans, should be asking is: How do we weed out the cheating and dishonest people within the racing industry?
