Concerning Social Security payments, my contributions were made for over 50 years on every salary I received. From my first part time job until I retired. I always had a job.

The Social Security check is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" I'll be part of the one percent to forward this.I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it.

The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too.

It totaled 15% of our income before taxes.
Congress took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking.

They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer. And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.

Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity!

Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government.

Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it. Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.

Disappointed the BBC cancelled my interview on Israel's killing of Hind Rajab

2 producers eagerly reached out. They confirmed the time & one called to prepare a brief for the anchor

She asked me whether Israel's announcement is positive, I explained in detail it was a cover up.

The IDF is blaming the killing of Hind, her uncle, aunt & 4 cousins on the family itself for trying to flee by car & on the ambulance sent to rescue her for "failures in the co-ordination of the movement."

None of this is remotely true! The Red Cross immediately informed the IDF about 5-year-old Hind who was hiding in that motionless car, & they requested permission from Israel to allow an ambulance to rescue them.

After multiple long hours, Israel granted greenlight to the ambulance & provided them with a designated route on a GPS to drive on.

As soon as the ambulance reached Hind's car, the IDF ambushed & bombed them immediately with an American made anti-tank missile then opened fire on Hind's car. The car was hit with 355 bullets.

Israel then kept that area under lockdown for 12 days, & prevented anyone from approaching.

Hind's mom went daily to the Ahli baptist hospital hoping to find her daughter, until her lifeless body was brought in along with the charred remains of the ambulance men.

Israel then claimed after an "initial investigation" that its troops were NEVER in that area to begin with. They maintained that claim for 2 years despite ample recordings & satellite images debunking this lie.

The only reason Israel is now making this new announcement of a deeper investigation is to shield its soldiers & generals from the International Criminal Court by invoking the principle of "complementarity;" that the ICC cannot investigate a state that is already investigating itself in good faith.

I told the BBC producer Israel today also quietly shut down the investigation into the triple tap killing of American, Canadian, British, Australian & Polish citizens in the WCK massacre. Israel blamed the massacre on the aid workers themselves for "deviating from the predesignated route" & for hiring an armed security guard "without informing the IDF" (both claims where debunked by WCK themselves, who had coordinates their every step with the IDF).

I told the producer the Israeli commander responsible for this massacre, Nochi Mendel, is a fanatical settler who had signed a petition calling for starving Gaza & that he was celebrated by settler leaders & supported by Israeli government leaders after what he did.

Mendel even received a box of chocolate from the settler council's leader & a letter of support for what he did.

Mendel was initially dismissed by the IDF & blamed for the massacre, but was quickly & quietly reinstated & promoted in the Defence Ministry as the head of the settlements and national infrastructure unit.

It's abundantly clear Israel is NOT serious about prosecuting any of the atrocities committed in Gaza. Since the genocide began, only two soldiers were punished by the IDF; one for microwaving a living frog & another for cooking sausages in the army kitchen on Shabbat.

The producer asked me: What about the 150 cases the IDF said are pending review?

I answered: it's just a number designed to give the appearance of seriousness, but it's essentially meaningless.

If it took the IDF two whole years to admit the simplest of facts that the entire world had already known, which is that their troops were the ones who fired on Hind Rajab's car, how do you expect them to do with the remaining cases that are not as high profile?

Five minutes after the call, the producer wrote me that they decided to cancel the interview & will not even host anyone else to comment on the issue, & instead they'll play archival footage!

August 11 near Tropicana and Boulder Highway. Officers respond to a reported shooting that never happened. Video shows the handler struggling with his barking dog, then planting his boot into the animal twice before dragging it toward the patrol car. A woman stands nearby with her hands up.

LVMPD says they are “aware.” That’s it so far. No name released. No discipline announced.

These dogs run into gunfire and knives for us. They don’t get to quit when it gets hard. A handler who kicks his partner has no business wearing the badge or holding a leash.

Fire him. Investigate him. And make damn sure that dog is never put back with this guy.

My name is Maryam Tahmasebi, and I am a professor of psychology and statistics at Los Angeles Pierce College—or, I was, until April 9, when my life, and my family’s lives, changed forever. On that day, I was teaching a class when my son texted me, saying that my husband hadn’t picked him up from school and wasn’t answering his phone, which is very unlike him. I picked my son up from school, came frantically back home, and called the police, thinking that something horrible must have happened to him. Even so, it never occurred to me that he could have been detained by ICE. We are legal permanent residents with valid green cards. My husband, Eissa Hashemi, is also a professor, and has dedicated his life to mentoring PhD students in the Business Psychology department of The Chicago School. The government had decided to punish my husband for being the son of a woman who was a translator for the Iranian hostage takers in 1979, before Eissa was even born.
My son and I have spent over 120 days in the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, away from my husband, who was taken to the South Texas Detention Center in Pearsall, Texas. We have been put through hell for the past four months, and our physical and mental health have deteriorated in ways that might not be reversible for years. We are only allowed to speak with my husband for 10 minutes every two weeks, under supervision.
We are in tremendous pain and have been trapped in an unendurable, unending nightmare. I want my son to have a normal life, not spend his days in this awful detention center in Dilley. No child deserves this. No human deserves this. We are asking anyone with a conscience to help us end this nightmare. There are more things I want to say, but this is the shackled version of what I feel safe saying right now. I will end on this: If this could happen to us, a law-abiding family of two professors and a young boy, it can happen to anyone.

Rivers in China and Europe are drying up, reaching historically low levels—Just for perspective, the drying of these rivers will impact shipping routes, leading to a skyrocketing in the prices of food, fuel, and energy.

El Niño has begun, driving ocean temperatures to record-breaking highs—Nearly three decades ago, a catastrophic El Niño claimed 23,000 lives and inflicted billions of dollars in global economic damage.

Canada burned to the ground, and Greenland's ice sheet is collapsing—slowing down the overturning of heat in the North Atlantic, pushing the whole monsoon system down further south, causing droughts and forest fires over the Amazon rainforest.

The severity of this heatwave is truly hard to comprehend. What's going on there is a foreshadowing of our future.

Scientists confirmed that heatwaves driven by climate change. Climate change is not a "hoax." It’s real and it’s happening.

If you are not a scientist, and you disagree with scientists about science, it’s actually not a disagreement. You're just wrong. Science is not truth. Science is finding the truth. When science changes its opinion, it didn't lie to you. It learned more.

This is no longer just a climate crisis. Climate chaos is inevitable. This is a humanitarian crisis. Just because you do not take an interest in climate change, doesn't mean climate change won't take an interest in you.

We should start naming heatwaves after fossil fuel and oil companies, and wildfires after arms and defense industries. And Could reporters stop asking if leaders believe in climate change and start asking if they understand it instead.

The world must remember that we live in a society, not an economy.

Since the focus has been on the sailors of the USS Lincoln, I will comment…briefly…on my experience on an aircraft carrier.
I worked on the flight deck of the USS Nimitz for the entire 6-month deployment, launching aircraft during combat operations, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
After leaving the Navy, I briefly worked as a nurse in a correctional facility (prison)
I have said many times, if I had to choose…to spend another 6 months at sea, doing the work I did then, in the conditions I did that work, or spend 6 months in a medium security prison..as an inmate… I would choose the latter.
It’s some of the toughest, most dangerous work on the planet. I collapsed into my “bed” each night…every night.
Only a miserable fuck like Donald Trump, who has never done an hour of hard physical labor in his life…would make an ignorant ass comment like, “…not long enough..” when a reporter asked him if he felt the Lincoln deployment was too long.

The government just gave a charity being sued for s*x trafficking a $244 MILLION no-bid contract to provide lawyers to migrant kids. Put it out Friday night with no announcement. They are keeping this quiet and for a good reason.

It's the "Sound of Freedom" charity, OUR Rescue, formerly known as Operation Underground Railroad. They have zero immigration lawyers, zero federal contracts, ever, and their lifetime federal history is one transaction...this one.

The kids' real lawyers? The government owed them $65M and refused to pay unless they handed over the children's confidential files. They refused and their contract died.

I spent 2 days following the money and it's dark: a Dubai shell company, the founder's family on the payroll, contractors listed as "anonymous individuals," and a DC company registered 13 months before the contract, with the CEO named as beneficial owner.

They knew.

After spending time with Julie, my heart absolutely broke for her. She is incredibly sweet, so gentle when taking treats, eager to please, and unbelievably smart. She already knows hand signals for sit, down, and paw, and she’s ready to learn so much more.
Being deaf does not make Julie a difficult dog.
It simply means she communicates a little differently.
Dogs don’t care how we communicate… they just want to understand us. Julie can learn just like any other dog with patience, consistency, and love.
If you’re looking for a calmer dog who’s a little more chill, then a puppy probably isn’t the right fit for you… deaf or not. Please keep that in mind before adopting a puppy. They have lots of energy, they need guidance, they need patience, and they need someone who is willing to teach them how to navigate the world.

In March 1921, a fifteen-year-old girl named Rose Sullivan made one of the most extraordinary escapes in American women's history — not through open doors or sunlit streets, but through the cold, dimly lit underground morgue tunnels beneath Boston City Hospital, eight months pregnant and following a kind stranger through passages where the dead were carried. . .

Rose had been married at thirteen to a factory supervisor ten years her senior, an arrangement made by her own parents, and by the time she was heavily pregnant at fifteen, her husband Thomas had begun outlining a terrifying future: total isolation after the baby's birth, no visitors, no outings, complete control over everything she ate, wore, and said. So one March morning, she pretended to be in medical distress, let Thomas bring her to the hospital, slipped through a door marked "Staff Only — Basement Access," and disappeared into the labyrinth below. It was there that fifty-year-old morgue attendant Patrick O'Brien found her — lost, exhausted, and weeping among covered gurneys — and instead of turning her in, he simply said, "Follow me." He led her through the entire underground tunnel system, past the morgue, up cold stairwells, and through a door that opened into the Boston City Hospital Women's Medical Clinic, where Dr. Elizabeth Morrison took one look at this brave, trembling girl and immediately surrounded her with protection, medical care, and legal aid. Thomas did find the clinic, but it was too late — Rose was already safe. She gave birth one month later in the maternity ward, was granted a divorce, and raised her daughter, who grew up to become a nurse in that very same hospital for thirty years.

Rose lived until 1999, dying at ninety-three, and before she passed she left the world these words: "I walked past death to reach life — every mother does that in childbirth. I just did it more literally than most." Patrick O'Brien recorded the day in his personal journal, writing that he had "used the tunnels of death to lead someone to life," and hospital historians later documented the story before the tunnels were permanently sealed in the 1970s.

Rose's story is a reminder that courage does not always look heroic — sometimes it looks like a fifteen-year-old girl, eight months pregnant, putting one foot in front of the other through the darkest tunnel imaginable, because freedom was waiting on the other side.
