If you remember, the last time John Deere and the UAW went to the negotiating table, it ended in a month-long strike.

More than 10,000 Deere workers walked off the job before 61% ultimately approved a new six-year contract that included a $8,400 signing bonus and 20% increase in wages over the lifetime of the contract with 10% that year.

This current contract expires in just over a year.

UAW members have rejected John Deere’s proposal for a two-year contract extension.
Deere says the offer would have “significantly” enhanced wages, benefits and protections. The UAW counteroffer exceeded Deere’s proposal by about $500 million.
The current contract remains in place through October 2027.
Deere says market challenges remain, with demand below 2021 levels and about 1,200 production employees still on layoff.

This is definitely going to be the year we find out just how much water is too much. These two fields are just across the road from each other, yet show two very different stories. We’re seeing a lot of low spots with drowned-out pockets in fields across Illinois today, as well as wind damage in corn. This is McLean County, IL. #pftour26

@BradyD78 @AGRICENLIFER I asked this of a farmer today. We stopped for an interview in Illinois while on #pftour26. He says it was the heat in July (at least on his farm). It was hot and dry, but he thinks the heat was the big factor. He also says planting dates played a big role this year in Illinois.

What’s been the biggest surprise on the Eastern leg of #PFTour26? Just how immature this crop is. The weeds were horrific in this Indiana cornfield. We know there’s been replanting in the area, but I’m not sure how late this field was planted. At 108 bu./acre, that’s less than half of what fields along this route would normally produce.

@ValleryDornIns thinks this just may be the smallest ear he’s ever sampled on tour. This is just one stop…. We have a long way to go yet today. Hopefully we will see some better corn soon.
