This interview loses a lot of its nuance when it is just directly translated to English.

The focus of his answer was not "I was the one and only key player on the team." In Korean, the phrase he used is tied more closely to his confidence in his own role and contribution than to making an exclusive claim about being the sole core of the team.

He explicitly acknowledged that his former team was a strong team and that all of his teammates are great players. The point of the answer was that he had always believed he was an important part of that success, and that belief gave him the confidence that he could also succeed outside of the former team.

For a while, some people especially tgall deliberately edited the sentence of the interview, twisted the context even without the original clip and pushed the narrative that he was claiming to be the 'only' core of the team on youtube and other kr lol communities. But as time passed, more and more people began pointing out what should have been obvious from the start: it was an interview about self-confidence, not self-importance.

I watched in real time that all those comments and posts of 'public opinions' that you're telling were changing as the time goes by, after all those tgall users were gone from the communities.

You know what...That's how these internet communities work. A group of people rushes in at the same time, amplifying a particular narrative and trying to make it look like the consensus. But as time passes, the truth that was buried beneath that manufactured narrative eventually comes to light.

Anyways, the emphasis of the statement was on his confidence, not on diminishing the contributions of his teammates. The controversy largely came from people stripping away the context and nuance of what he actually said.
