The basics of diabetes management…
1. Set some goals.
2. Test your basal rate.
3. Test your insulin to carb ratio.
4. Track your food.
5. Stay active, walk & workout.
INSULIN DOES NOT MAKE US FAT! This needs to stop being said in the Type 1 community, it’s dangerous and causes eating disorders and mental health issues.

Managing our diabetes is a skill and with the correct information, right mindset and willing to put the work in great control is 100% achievable for any Type 1
As Type 1’s we have to see our numbers as just data and feedback to let us know if something needs adjusting or not.
If not our head will fall off every time something happens that we don’t like.
Things that will impact our BGLs…
Food & Drink
Our weight
Activity
Stress
Illness
Hormones
Temperature
Sleep
Time of the day

For me my “WHY” to controlling my diabetes is my family friends and clients and Steve (my dog)
These people and pet would be fucked if I wasn’t here due to poor management and that’s in the back of my mind every day.
You need to figure out what your “WHY” is.
If the goal is to improve your BG control figure out what you need to do to achieve this, daily/weekly/monthly.
This then becomes your goals.

4 things I believe should be explained to every Type 1 on diagnosis.
1. Pre bolusing.
2. Split/Extended bolusing for fats & protein.
3. How to adjust management for exercise.
4. Dealing with emotions.
A question I hear a lot from other Type 1 “what’s your favourite food/snack that doesn’t spike your BGLs”
How about “what’s your favourite food/snack” and just learn how to Fuckin bolus correctly for foods you enjoy.
Everything in our lives including life itself has seasons.
Seasons of things going fuckin awesome and seasons of challenges and struggles.
It’s in the seasons of challenges and struggles we build character and learn the most so don’t fight them.
5 ways to increase your insulin sensitivity…
1) Lose body fat
2) Lift weights
3) Aerobic exercise (running, cycling etc)
4) Walk more
5) Eat less fat
It doesn’t matter how much insulin we need to take what matters is how well it works.
From coaching over 500 Type 1’s the biggest challenge they have that stops them from controlling their BGLs is knowledge.
Luckily that’s something that can be sorted.

As Type 1’s we’re gonna run into problems that’s just how it is.
It’s our job to solve these problems.
So we have 2 options…
1. Solve the problem and take the lesson from it.
2. Complain play the victim card and don’t do shit but stay stuck in the same place.
I know managing your blood sugar can be tough, but don't let that stop you. Embrace the challenges because they enable us to grow, celebrate your wins, own your diabetes don’t let it own you and show the world what you're made of! We got this!
On planes we’re told to put our oxygen masks on first before helping others.
Yet I see a lot of Type 1’s who’s oxygen masks are no where to be seen yet they’re going around helping everyone else with theirs.
In the journey on achieving great BG control I believe you learn some extremely valuable skills.
Integrity
Discipline
Commitment
Resilience
Mental & physical toughness
Persistence
Patience
These skills will also roll over to everything else in your life.
