The Flyers haven’t been able to develop offensive talent for 25+ years. This is why.
Giroux is the only 100 point player that they drafted since 2000. This org is too worried about “playing the right way”.
This goes beyond non-negotiables & it won’t end well for the Flyers.
“Michkov is a spoke on the wheel”. If he’s a just a spoke on the wheel, the rebuild is a failure
He would never say the same thing about Martone.
Tocchet is hiding behind the “no one is bigger than the team” excuse. It’s lame. He literally wants to turn him into a 2-way checker
Tocchet legitimately thinks the Flyers are better off without Michkov
His usage shows that & the way he talks about him shows that. Look no further than his reaction to Mich’s OT goal vs NYR
His butt buddy is DMing Flyers fans last series saying as much…not shocked at all
From game 1 of play-offs was pretty clear for Michkov?
Do anything Tocchet didnt like, even if nothing crazy? Going to miss next shift
Other players havent been held to that standard
Hard to make impact when play ~4 shifts in a period, often without regular linemates. #Flyers
Thanks for leading the team in scoring post Olympic break & helping the team make a remarkable playoff push, Matvei.
We’re gonna give you 10 minutes a night, barely any PP time & a few health bombs in the playoffs & wonder why you’re playing with no confidence out there.
@OptimizedPort Unrelated, but interested to hear your thoughts on the importance of underlying holdings overlap between funds. Is your view (of avoiding it) through the lens of the potential correlation benefit? Love the content
Also, you’re an idiot if you are choosing the coach over the player.
Regardless of your feelings of Tocchet, the shelf-life of NHL coaches is 3 years give or take.
Best-case scenario Michkov is here for the next 15 plus years. Obvious choice…
There are two underlying reasons why Flyers fans are worried about the Michkov scratching
1) They want to avoid a Cutter 2.0 situation
2) Tocchet doesn’t seem interested in maximizing Michkov
Both are reasonable concerns, especially given Tocchet’s history with Russian players
This is exhausting, and Rick Tocchet still doesn’t trust him at all.
I personally wouldn’t scratch one of your two main cogs for the future, especially when this was supposed to be about giving the young guys playoff experience. I also wouldn’t have had him playing only 8-11 minutes a night. Hopefully it works out.
I can get behind this as a one-game reset, but there’s no way Matvei’s getting back in the lineup if they win Game 5. There’s your scapegoat for one loss.
And yes, I know he’s struggled this series. It’s just not a move I would’ve made. I see the thought process though…they’re gonna play Rick Tocchet hockey again in Game 5 and suffocate PIT. Hopefully Alex Bump makes the most of this.
Go FLYERS.
“We need to play meaningful games & get our young guys playoff experience.”
20yo Michkov struggles a little, w/ the rest of his line, during the first 2 games
Colby Cohen - “He doesn’t belong in the lineup.”
This is about the long game, not winning the cup this year…clickbait
Do fans & media not realize that it’s not either or w/ Michkov & Martone?
Michkov led the team in scoring post-Olympic break while playing F9 mins. Martone over a PPG since joining the squad
To have a chance (in the future) at a Cup run they need BOTH players to play a big role
@Flyers_Clips Martone ends up being the hero. Did Michkov play? To all the MM fanboys, the playoffs expose his problem. He’s too slow and not competitive. Did anyone here want him on the ice in the last 5 minutes?!! EXACTLY! He’s talented no doubt. But not a trustworthy full time player yet.
Game 1 Review
Good:
- Zegras line was great
- Sanheim, Risto & Seeler played really well
- Vladar was solid per usual
Bad:
- TK was putrid…turnovers galore
- 2nd/3rd line struggled to transport the puck (Marty goal the exception)
- PP cannot figure it out (might never)
1-0!
@FlyersHockeyGuy@DannyBriere48 The complaints about Michkov playing on his left side, Zegras not playing C, Couturier playing too high in the lineup, and a need for a transitional-style game…that was all fixed post Olympic break? Those?
A list of NHL players with more points than Matvei Michkov in fewer minutes than he has:
Viktor Arvidsson
That’s the entire list
There is literally only one player in the whole league putting up more points than him in his role
@J_Fahringer Heard Isles broadcast say they can’t call the extra two if they don’t see the laceration lol aka nose bleeds don’t get called…didn’t know that
