Wage stagnation, poor work-life balance, and unattainable house prices—despite bumper chip company profits and positive economic statistics in the headlines, many young people in Taiwan don't think growth is “trickling down” for them.
@gonglei89 China itself has been using covid to sell to its people the superiority of its system. So citizens will remember this because the CCP created this standard.
@FemaRegion33 @chasewnelson Our first outbreak was when virtually no one had vaccines. Then we had almost zero COVID when vaccination started. Almost no local COCID continued for nearly a year after the vaccination campaign. Then the outbreak occurred after loosening restrictions.
@gonglei89 Certainly. All countries are different and need to adjust to their own situations. It seems that CCP should take more cues from other Asian countries' experiences and I think Taiwan offers a lot in this regard that they can learn from.
It's gone unnoticed by many. So I felt like I should properly document what just happened on Weibo today.
Netizens in China, for just a few hours, got to unleash their wrath on the Chinese government for how they handled the Covid crisis in Shanghai and other social issues.

#Taiwan needs to mandate vaccination for the elderly and open the borders. Why is sacrificing Taiwan's connection to the world and forced quarantine is considered less of an intrusion than two shots that will save lives.
The zero Covid approach made sense a year ago, but over 2 years in that approach appears unsustainable. However, the main problem is, it doesn't look like these places have an exit plan. 1/

@christoph_chiu Taiwan needs to mandate vaccination for the elderly. Vaccinated folks should not pay with their jobs and freedom to protect those who don't want a vaccine.

📈First day in 2022 that the 7-day average for domestic cases has reached that of imported cases (134)
💉Get your gramps boosted! 75+ year-olds are at highest risk from COVID, but only 77%, 71%, and 54% have had 1, 2, and 3 vaccine doses, respectively
"The European side make clear that this... compartmentalisation isn't feasible...for us Ukraine is the defining moment on whether we live in a world governed by rules or by force."
#Taiwan can take away young people's jobs if they don't get boosted. But seniors who put themselves and the medical system at risk by refusing ANY vaccination have no requirement. Ok.
Reporter asks about taking away govt care/welfare benefits from seniors who don't get vax - Chen says that is not something they'll do, bc those benefits are for the well-being of the seniors. (However, there could be restrictions at care facilities for the more vulnerable ppl).
