@JoseonOne@MooseAnony34735@DerekPederson3 OP is fermi paradox, not "why aren't humans doing interstellar travel". You just need any being more advanced than that, by mediocrity principle definitely feasible, and that also expands the range. Neumann machines can in theory colonize an entire galaxy in max few million years
@Math3matica@enthusiast_nft There is ~no scenario in which humanity as is doesn't go extinct sooner or later, but some scenarios are more amenable to humanity and its values, some less. Reckless racing is on the "less" side.

@soloilviso@Tom1l1l@LycurgusSpartan They absolutely did, but it wasn't today's Serbo-Croatian, and most of them, the linguists, thought they spoke the same language as Serbs still
@LycurgusSpartan People who used the terms slovinski, ilirski, ... thought they spoke the same language as Serbs. They are predecessors of Illyrian movement
@LycurgusSpartan Quite the opposite. It is synthetic term to say those are dialects of German language, because German language is the invention, not the dialects. Serbo-Croatian as a specific term is from Yugoslav period, but it's referencing the standardized language created in the 19-20th c.
@guscost@genalewislaw No, bomber aircraft is imprecise, and it's very dangerous to use nukes due to risk of MAD with current stakes
So smart drones bombs are the way
@RumanaRichard@genalewislaw AI is what allows perfectly autonomous drones, smart bombs, creation of more advanced weapons, hijacking of every channel for attack, etc
@genalewislaw Definitely the worst scenario
Even if that is avoided, weapons will get ever more capable- black orb hypothesis of Bostrom. Most dangerous potential one rn is causer of fake vacuum (if it's the case) collapse
One of the most important issues rn and for the fores. future
@SOPHONTSIMP Agreed
Most likely to be rare complex life, such as rare multicellularity
Rare life is still decently likely, but less than in the past, with the increasing discoveries of bio-like molecules on other planets, water on asteroids, etc
