@TTChelps Subway car 5366 has a loose ceiling grab handle toward the centre of the married pair (opposite end from the cab). It's not stable to hold onto - needs repairing.
@TTChelps The new displays at Dupont look great... but they're backwards! Finch trains shown on the Vaughan-bound platform and vice-versa. Please have somebody fix this because people waiting on the platform are audibly confused.
@GOtransit Hi KB. I was standing on platform 3 at Oakville since 7:50. The train scheduled for 8:00 arrived ~15 mins late, stopped, waited for a minute, then departed without opening its doors. There was zero communication to confused passengers until a replacement bus announced @ 8:55
@GOtransit An eastbound train just stopped at Oakville GO, paused for a moment, then departed without opening its doors, leaving several dozen behind. There's been zero customer communication during this morning's disruption. Can somebody please make an announcement at least?
The xz fiasco has shown how a dependence on unpaid volunteers can cause major problems. Trillion dollar corporations expect free and urgent support from volunteers.
@Microsoft@MicrosoftTeams posted on a bug tracker full of volunteers that their issue is "high priority"
Yep, that's worked out well for Portland. Wait, let's check some avg weekday numbers to confirm that:
Portland MAX only - 74,800 rides
Vancouver SkyTrain only - 446,400 rides

Canadas transparency problem. There just isnโt a culture of telling people whatโs going on. Transit agencies act like they are guarding the nuclear codes.
A thread worth reading. Diversity makes systems resilient, whether technical (vital computers on large aircraft) or human (groupthink and assimilation engineering culture). All the problems Reece enumerates can be solved - but first we need to decide we want to solve them.
I am probably the biggest booster there is of Torontos transit expansion, itโs the best in North America (LA is arguably bigger but itโs a lot worse IMHO) BUT today I want to talk about 5 major problems with it, if you enjoy please like and RT - not going to pull my punches.
We must reject this ridiculous false dichotomy: high speed, high frequency, and high reliability are NOT mutually exclusive. Spend time near the LGV Sud-Est or the WCML and watch how many high(er) speed trains they move. Nobody would prefer an RER to Lyon regardless of frequency!
@BikeShareTO FYI, this bike had an adventure and is in front of the Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Oak Park Blvd in Oakville. Hopefully somebody can come retrieve it and return it to the system.
@GOtransit Good morning! On trip 1860, coach 2321, the A-end left door (1/2) is having problems. I've ridden it 3x this week, and every time it's had to cycle the doors to get them to close. Probably worth Maintenance taking a look at before it fails completely and causes a delay
@_DivyeshM@RM_Transit The station remains accessible with elevators. I grant that there might be somebody who can't use elevators but can use escalators, though that raises the question of why all the other accessibility problems are buried behind half a dozen clicks.
The TTC website is more service alert than actual website. If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority. Why are escalator closures and late night construction sharing space with a partial closure of Toronto's second-busiest subway line?
@GOtransit Hi! On coach 2819 (1954 Aldershot departure), the light in the toilet doesn't come on when the door is locked, and the hand dryer doesn't work. A few of the other toilets on this consist need to be looked at too, because they're either locked out or overflowing. Thx!
Huge day for this amazing project. First test trains over the viaduct. A full, 12 car set, powered by an MP40 & MP54.
It's funny to have watched this every day for the last three years & finally see the end result of all that labour. Congratulations to the whole project team!
Great thread from Uday on the impetus behind building Mac Yard in Vaughan.
(This is also how the Milton and Brampton Subdivisions lost their names. The remaining chunks became the Guelph and Weston Subs, with the new Halton Sub connecting Burlington directly to Mac Yard.)
I've written a lot abt how RR's managerial focus on cost efficiency kneecapped their efforts to compete w trucks. But that story was neither total, nor abstract; it was in projects like this that railroads mounted their most concerted response to their problems in that era.
