The Senate just voted 99-0 to withhold their pay during government shutdowns, and it’s about time. If federal employees don’t get paid, neither should Congress. I hope the House follows the Senate’s lead and does the same.

I couldn’t think of a better person for this commission. @RepTerriCollins is very hardworking, knowledgeable, and passionate, especially in regard to education.
I’m glad to see that she’ll continue serving our state. I thank the Speaker for this nomination, and I know Alabama will benefit greatly from it!

Alabama Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter has formally appointed outgoing State Rep. Terri Collins (R-Decatur) to the Alabama Charter Public School Commission.
@RepLedbetter announced the appointment Friday, which will continue the public service of the longtime longtime education policymaker.
“I am proud to appoint Rep. Collins to serve on the Alabama Charter Commission at a time when conservative leadership is needed most,” Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) said.
“Simply put, Rep. Collins’ understanding of education policy is second to none, and given the fact that she was the architect behind the law establishing the Alabama Charter School Commission, there is no one I have more confidence in to ensure that this entity is performing its duties to a standard Alabamians can be proud of.”

I’m glad to see Alabama getting some recognition. Thanks to our state’s conservative and pro-business leadership, I expect this trend of growth and opportunity to continue!
Thank you, @GovernorKayIvey, for giving Alabama a fighting chance to send 7 Republicans to Congress. The House and Senate will convene 4 p.m. Monday for a special session.
Joint statement from Senate President Pro Tem @GarlanGudgerJr and me below:
“After extensive dialogue and careful planning among Alabama’s legislative leadership and Governor Ivey, we are grateful for the opportunity to convene in a special session to address the issue of redistricting. Governor Ivey is right: while SCOTUS delivered a landmark victory for conservatives, Alabama’s situation is unlike many other states, as we are under a court order preventing the State Legislature from redrawing congressional maps until 2030. With that said, we can and will set a contingency plan in place for our state’s primary elections should the U.S. Supreme Court remand Alabama’s current case to a lower court with clear instructions to apply the Callais ruling. While there are no guarantees that Alabama’s now unlawful, court mandated roadblock will be removed in time, we have a responsibility to give our state a fighting chance to send seven republican members to Congress. Control of the U.S. House of Representatives could come down to just a handful of seats, and when the dust settles, the people of Alabama will know that their Legislature stood firm, acted decisively, and did everything within its power to fight for fair representation.”
It was so much fun interning for this committee during the 2026 legislative session in Montgomery! Chairman Garrett is a phenomenal leader.
I am grateful for everyone I met and the things I learned!

Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. May we never forget this tragic day and the brave service members that lost their lives.
Every day, men and women sacrifice their safety to protect us. We must constantly remind ourselves of their service and be forever grateful!

Last Monday, I had the incredible opportunity to speak at an @AuburnU Admissions event with 3,200 registered attendees in Neville Arena. It was the largest admissions event ever, welcoming prospective students and guests from across our great nation.
At the event, I delivered a 12-minute speech on what led me to Auburn, what I’ve done during my time here, why I love this institution, and why they’d love it too.
I also closed with some parting advice: get involved, be intentional and proactive in designing your own life, try new things, do not be scared of failure, find a mentor, and make a difference.
This was such a meaningful experience, and I look forward to more opportunities to speak with others. Let me know if you’d like to collaborate on an upcoming event!
This is unbelievable. Montgomery residents, especially the victims of this tragedy, deserve better.
Creating safer communities and solving crimes should not be divisive issues, but Mayor @stevenlouisreed clearly disagrees. Sadly, Montgomery is yet another example of Democrat-ran cities failing, and its citizens are forced to pay the price.
When will we stand up and say enough is enough? Use your vote! We must elect conservatives who care about protecting our cities and vote out Democrats who lead our communities to ruin.

.@GovernorKayIvey personally tried to reach Montgomery Mayor @StevenLouisReed on Monday morning to offer state assistance after the Saturday night downtown mass shooting that left two dead and 12 wounded – but the mayor did not take the call and has not followed up, Governor Ivey's office says.
Despite the lack of communication with state authorities, Mayor Reed released a statement abdicating responsibility for the violent event on Monday afternoon, blaming the shooting on Alabama's "lax" gun laws.
"Governor Ivey attempted to reach Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed Monday morning to offer her support. While he did not take the call, she left a voicemail to ask what she could do to help," Gina Maiola, Governor Ivey's top spokesperson said in a statement to Yellowhammer News.
"She also specifically asked Mayor Reed to have the police chief reach out to ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. The Administration has not heard from the mayor or the police chief.
"However, we did see the mayor had time to go to the press to criticize the governor’s efforts to make Montgomery safer following the violent activity Saturday night. The governor believes we need a unified front to fight crime in this city. Right now, Governor Ivey is focused on finding solutions, and she encourages all other leaders to do the same."
On Monday, Governor Ivey issued state directives to bring Alabama's capital city back to order.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. Please join me in praying for the victims and all those affected by this horrible tragedy.
Montgomery leaders must step up and protect their residents. If our capitol is not safe, what example does that set for the rest of our state?
Montgomery deserves better. Alabama deserves better. America deserves better.
