Between 2019 and 2023, Ujung Kulon National Park saw 26 Javan rhinos killed. Data manipulation has also contributed to this crisis, and now, another rhino died after being translocated.
Only less than 50 Javan rhinos remain.
We need professionals to manage our national parks.

Insects have declined by 75% in the past 50 years – and the consequences may soon be catastrophic.
Rachel Carson warned the world back in 1963
She was ignored and pesticide industry continue to make billions wiping out Bees and insects
Without Bees many food crops will vanish
Maaf ini panjang, bear with me 👀
Bill Gates itu sebenernya nggak masuk “alarmist” kalo baca buku, esai, dan denger semua pernyataannya. Ya kalo baca judulnya aja rada ketipu sih.
Pragmatis.
Udah, capek ngetiknya. Btw aku baca buku dan kontroversial soal iklim juga termasuk Lomborg; jadi bukan ngarang ye 🥹
Beberapa hari lalu Chanee Kalaweit (bapaknya Andrew) bilang di sebuah podcast,
“If you do real conservation in Indonesia, you will have enemies.
If you are friends with everyone, it’s because you’re doing nothing.”

I can list plenty of international orangutan researchers being banned from doing their long term research by Indonesian Goverment for speaking up on what happened in South Tapanuli & Batang Toru area, the forest where the most rarest orangutan species, Pongo tapanuliensis lived
🐋 We’re campaigning to end the slaughter of whales and dolphins in the Faroe Islands.
Last week, Born Free joined forces with Sea Shepherd and the Stop the Grind campaign at the European Parliament in Brussels to call for an end to these brutal hunts.
Every year, entire pods of whales and dolphins are driven into shallow bays and killed in a practice known as the Grindadrap, or 'the Grind'. Despite claims of humane killing methods, veterinary science and field evidence tell a very different story.
📄 MEPs from across the political spectrum were presented with a powerful report detailing the traumatic killing methods, the way these hunts undermine marine conservation, and the serious health risks linked to consuming whale meat.
As the largest trading partners of the Faroe Islands, we urged EU and UK policymakers to use trade agreements as a diplomatic tool to put pressure on the Faroese government to end the hunts.

*Update: Grind foremen have today announced there will be no further hunts in the northern islands until a case surrounding a violation of Faroese law is resolved. In June 2024, Sea Shepherd filed a police report after whalers held an exhausted pod of pilot whales for hours to attend a local festival. When the killing began, 138 whales were slaughtered, and 90 survivors were abandoned in shallow water.
✊ Let’s keep the pressure on to bring this barbaric practice to an end once and for all!

Collapsed from exhaustion, its leg in a snare, this Sumatran elephant was helped with an excavator by a conservation group in a final attempt to help it stand.
For several days, the animal had been lying in a forest corridor that linked two oil palm plantations. Shortly after this photograph was taken, the elephant died from blood poisoning.
Sumatra’s Leuser Ecosystem is the only place on Earth where Sumatran elephants, tigers, orangutans and rhinos coexist. All are close to extinction.
Clearance of lowland forests for oil palm plantations has forced elephants closer to human settlements, leading to conflicts. Although illegal, snares are widespread.
📸 ‘Palm Oil Sacrifice’ by Paul Hilton was highly commended in #WPY56’s Wildlife Photojournalism category.
