I am grateful to God for how far He has brought me. I just saw my paystub and how much I have paid as deductions this year is more that all I earned in my first year in this country.
I really can’t wait to visit Lagos with my daughter and share some of my history with her. I hope we still have Zen gardens then so we can have lunch where her parents had their first date.
All this English you people are speaking on this app doesn’t concern me. I’m both a Christian and a feminist. Until misogyny and patriarchy are erased from the church that is supposed to be a safe space for women, I will continue to identify as both.
Please, feminists, keep speaking up o. Misogyny MUST crumble. The evidence that feminism is winning is the discomfort of misogynists. You cannot practise feminism in a way that makes a misogynist comfortable. It means you haven’t done anything. Some men will only speak well of women because they have daughters. They don’t even rate their wives. Smh. This matter is long.
You don’t want to identify as a “feminist”, because you’re a christian and being Christian is enough. No problems. In fact, I hear you.
However, the responsibility is now on you to speak boldly and directly against misogyny and patriarchy using our Christian persuasion from the holistic understanding of scripture.
It should be very easy to do that. Start from the church and spread the message everywhere else.
Teach on the equality of their worth before God. Teach that the women and children department, serving puffpuff, etc is not an exclusive office for women, the women should also preach, teach, disciple God’s people and start full gospel ministries as God leads.
Teach on single men respecting the boundaries of women and not feeling intimidated by their ambition and success.
Teach how headship in a home is not for subjugation but sacrifice and a desire to die for your wife in a heartbeat.
Teach women that submission IN A MARRIAGE is NOT a relinquishing of their identity and purpose but honour for their husbands under God.
Teach women that staying in an abusive marriage and relationship is NOT scriptural—They should leave! Teach them that submission in a marriage shouldn’t cut short their destinies and diminish their worth and self esteem.
Teach women that marriage is NOT a must and if it will happen, it must be on God’s terms with a worthy male partner. Teach them that God is NOT waiting for them to be married before fulfilling purpose. Teach them not to shrink for male validation because they are both made in the image and likeness of God.
Teach men how God never said the husband must be richer/bigger/more famous than the wife. Teach men to not just allow their women shine but support and deeply encourage it because that is what being a husband is about.
Teach how men should be able to cook because it is a survival skill. Teach on how men should be actively involved in their children’s lives without seeking brownie points because that is what normal parenting is. I could go on.
The only thing I'll add to this conversation is that "I'm not a feminist but I believe in the equal rights of women and men" is something that really sounds nice on paper and protects you from opposition.
Whenever you speak up against inequality, misogyny, unfair systems, they will still ascribe the term feminist to you. And when they do that, they will mean that you're rebellious or aggressive.
It won't matter what you say you're not; what will matter is what you believe, and the limits others think they're allowed to demand of your belief.
Christian sisters if you like feminist if you like don’t feminist when misogyny touches you it won’t care whether you believe in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ
@d_ocheido And also, God loves her. That’s the most important thing. I know she will get to the place where she will stop her spicy content because you and I will keep praying for her. That’s our place as Christians.
@d_ocheido The pastor clearly told her you can’t collect this award and continue your spicy content. I think we need to give more grace. The church could not have stopped her from attending the classes and really the award was for the exam scores not spirituality.
