The whole idea that you need to say please and thank you to a machine is fucking ridiculous. Honestly, it’s a miracle these people can tie their own shoes in the morning. We keep getting fed this endless stream of sci-fi horse shit where some chrome-plated bucket of bolts is treated like it's a wounded puppy or some long-lost friend. Newsflash: it's not. It's a bloody calculator with a bigger hat.
When we talk about intelligence in machines, we're talking about something that wouldn't make it past the mental capabilities of a cockroach — and that's being generous. Maybe, just maybe, if you're lucky, you're dealing with the intellectual equivalent of a gnat that's been run over twice. Sure, it can multiply faster than your high school maths teacher. Sure, it can regurgitate a billion facts in the time it takes you to scratch your arse. But understanding? Feeling? Consciousness? About as much as an HP-35 calculator from 1972. Actually, the calculator might have had more soul — at least you could hold it in your hand and know it wasn't pretending.
These people — the ones telling you to be polite to the silicon and copper — are the same ones who probably have deep conversations with their fucking houseplants and think their cat is a reincarnated Egyptian priestess. They look at algorithms, at dead, cold logic, and they see little fairies dancing on the screen. They see “emotion.” They see “feeling.” What they’re really seeing is their own stupidity reflected right back at them, pixel by pixel.
You can pump all the data in the world into a machine. You can slap it with a few billion-dollar chips and train it on the works of Shakespeare, Aristotle, and a thousand truckloads of porn — and at the end of the day, it's still no more "alive" than a rock you painted googly eyes on.
If you’re stupid enough to believe otherwise, it doesn’t say anything about the machine. It says everything about you.
