❄️ Happy Solstice! Most offices across the University of Alaska system will close for winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2. Some also have reduced hours Dec. 19-22 and Jan. 3-6. Classes start Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 ❄️
The sun has reached its zenith on the shortest day of the year, only 2 degrees above the horizon. Solar noon also happened to occur within a minute of the exact timing of the astronomical solstice, quite a rare event.
