Today marks 43 years since Assata Shakur escaped false imprisonment for the murder of a state agent. She is still alive and under political asylum in Cuba. She still remains on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list.

Assata was a Black Panther Party member, a Black Liberation Army member, and Godmother to another famous American socialist—Tupac Shakur. In her teaching, organizing and advocacy, she has always been steadfast in the pursuit of liberation and self-determination for Black People.
