It’s ironic that people join a gig market app like Uber to have the flexibility of a contractor, but when they realise they have to take care of themselves as a trade off, complain and claim they are an employee. Now you’re an employee you better turn up when Uber tells you to!

The gig economy was designed for drivers to get in their car as they like and earn a few hours income here and there between other jobs. It worked well. Same Uber Eats.

It won't be worth Uber operating in NZ if more outside the Idiot Four use the precedent.

Took advantage of this one last year to get rid of some old clothes and help a good cause at the same time (seems to be harder to find clothing bins these days). It's Uber's annual driver where it will pickup your bundle of old cloths for free, then deliver them to the Red Cross. Not sure if there's a limit. Organised two collections from our place last time. Uber says: "Kiwis in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch to book a free Uber Package to collect their clothing donations between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, 19 October, Eligible Users will see a $0 amount payable when they book an Uber Package delivery during the Offer Period via the promotional banner, or directly through Uber Package product with the drop-off location set to one of the Red Cross Shop locations."
