UNBS Celebrates women, highlights role of standards in promoting gender inclusiveness;
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) recently held a special event at the Head office in Bweyogerere to celebrate its women as part of the activities to mark International Women’s Day, recognizing their contribution to advancing standards, quality assurance, and innovation in Uganda.
Speaking at the celebration, the UNBS Executive Director, Eng. James Kasigwa applauded the dedication and professionalism of women at the Bureau, noting that their talent, passion, and commitment continue to play a key role in the organization’s success.
He highlighted the 2026 International Women’s Day theme #BalanceTheScales, emphasizing that balancing the scales goes beyond metrology and calls for collective action to ensure women and girls are safe, respected, and empowered to shape their own lives.
Eng. Kasigwa encouraged UNBS women to champion the use of international standards that promote diversity, gender equity, and workplace wellbeing across government institutions and organizations.
He also reaffirmed UNBS’ commitment to gender and staff welfare initiatives, including the UNBS Nurture Nest facility and the development of the UNBS Gender Action Plan 2026–2030, aimed at strengthening gender equity and inclusivity within the Bureau.
The Guest speaker, Ms. Maggie Kigozi encouraged the ladies to invest and have financial independence.
