Dear Coaches:
We preach โplay fearlessโ and โmove onโ yet yank players off the field in the middle of an inning because we are tired of watching them make mistakes.
We say โput in work on your own timeโ but get bitter when we learn they are working with outside instructors.
We want them to โplay aggressiveโ but lay into them when their aggressiveness leads to an out or free base.
We demand they be โcoachableโ and listen to what we say but would get downright bitter and angry when someone says we could or should be doing something different.
We tell them they โgotta believe in themselvesโ but our actions, body language, words and decisions show we donโt believe in them.
We coaches tend to be walking, talking, breathing contradictions of what we speak. Believe it or not, we can break them down without even saying a word yet can be the difference maker in their life just by giving them opportunity, knowing they will fail, and giving them more opportunity.
There are many layers to the weeding out process (reasons players stop playing the game). Stop being someone who takes the love away and start being someone who helps grow their passion.
โHeโs too small.โ
โHeโs too weak.โ
โHeโs too slow.โ
โHis reactions are too slow.โ
โHeโs not ready.โ
Years later, that coach sees that same player who he turned away and looked down on and asks โWhat happened?โ โThatโs not the same kid I saw before!โ
Puberty, reps, patience and opportunityโฆCoach, thatโs what happened!! You were just so caught up and obsessed with whoโs ready now that you couldnโt see what was standing before you looking for someone to help them. Remember, Coach equals teacher.
@CheyenneBostock You would think thatโs common sense...but common sense isnโt so common ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Not only that, but some ppl just donโt want to be alone....for whatever reason.
The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season โ a time to build, a time to reap, a time to sow. And a time to heal.
This is the time to heal in America.
For Americaโs educators, this is a great day: Youโre going to have one of your own in the White House, and Jill is going to make a great First Lady.
