Texting your boo throughout the day & being able to count on someone to be there for you is so comforting. Especially if your day is going bad or if you're overwhelmed
If you ever decide to have children, have only the number of children you know you can raise if life takes an unexpected turn.
Life is unpredictable.
There is always a possibility that you could end up raising those children largely on your own while still married or not.
All of the love languages are intertwined and needed for a relationship to work.
Words of affirmation are useless without acts of service.
Quality time is incomplete without physical touch.
acts of service are intertwined with gifting.
I’ll throw in consideration, reciprocity, empathy, support, and loyalty.
In order for someone to feel your love, you have to love them the way they want to be loved. Not the way you usually express it.
People feel loved in different ways, through words, actions, quality time, gifts, support and the likes.
If you keep expressing love in your preferred way but it’s not how the other person naturally receives love, they may not feel it, even if your intentions are genuine.
It doesn’t mean you should completely drop your own way of expressing love, but understanding and blending it with your partners love language makes a big difference.
So figure out their love language and strike a balance.
When you marry someone, you also marry the history in which they were raised. I’ll give you an example.
Obama was a product of separated parents and a generational history of broken homes. Michelle was a product of healthy family relations where everyone - including extended family - met on Sunday. Because of this, Obama never saw the need for marriage and thought it was overrated because he never had that example growing up. Michelle saw marriage as an important part of life and wanted to reproduce the family tradition she was raised in.
In the end, he managed to propose for her sake after pressure from her, and committed to making it work. This means that, while familial history is important as it explains the root of a person’s behaviour, you have to consider the person’s willingness to break that pattern where the behaviour is negative because it takes an astronomical amount of work and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern.
It’s interesting how people remember small acts of kindness.
Holding a door.
Checking in.
Keeping a promise.
The things that seem ordinary to you can become unforgettable to someone else.
Never underestimate simple kindness.
I think one of the most heartfelt experiences in life is discovering that someone genuinely enjoys your presence. Not what you provide, Not your accomplishments. Just you, your thoughts, your energy, your existence.
You need boredom. A lot of it. Start by going on walks without music. No stimulation. No distractions of any kind. If you learn to sit with your own thoughts, for long enough, in time they will start serving you. You'll start having ideas once again. You'll start developing an extreme sense of clarity that will shift you into the next stage of your life. All by being bored, which is pretty insane.
