The long term value of Recreational Programming (apart from enabling you to enjoy what you are doing again) comes from allowing you to explore unusual things outside of the local optimum that the market pressure forces you into.
@DavidSacks the populist candidate got destroyed in the first debate, then didn't accept to have any
He lost because he also said that he is banning Hungarian language ( big historical minority in our country )
Literally his only voters were the uneducated, who can fall for any propaganda
Granted, in a fiercely competitive meritocracy, guys who believe they are 'self-made men', entirely responsible for their own success, often lack noblesse oblige -- a sense of moral duty to protect, support, & encourage the less successful.
One solution to this may be a kind of humble hereditarianism, in which the 'self-made' acknowledge that their success is largely due to genetically heritable traits, such as high intelligence, high conscientiousness, high creativity, good mental health, good physical health, etc.
The individual beneficiaries of these traits played no role in inheriting these traits, any more than aristocrats played in inheriting their wealth and status.
Rather, these traits arose through the evolution of their particular groups, the mate choices made by their ancestors, and the Mendelian lottery of genetic recombination.
The more deeply you understand the behavior genetics, the easier it is to reconcile meritocracy with noblesse oblige -- and to avoid any unseemly arrogance about the origins of one's own apparent excellence and success.
