Had John Lennon not been murdered in 1980 there is no way of knowing if he’d still be alive today. He was an angry drunk and a heroin addict so he could have died from that.

He also could have been in jail since he had a history of beating people up, including wives and girlfriends.

He repeatedly cheated on both wives, too, and rubbed it in their faces. He was mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive to others. He abandoned his son Julian and didn’t leave him $1 in his will or leave anything to anyone in his family. Yoko got everything and she raised a narcissist who thinks he is famous because he was “fortunate” enough to be born with his dad’s famous last name. He isn’t.

Julian Lennon on the other hand is famous, however. He was a big star in the 80s, and has written some great songs and seems like a nice fellow, but he was raised by his mom - not John Lennon - so there is that.

If John Lennon wasn’t in The Beatles and was just the guy next door who abused alcohol, and drugs, beer up his wife, and abandoned his son and family, and was the same type of total jerk as John Lennon, you wouldn’t want to know him.

John Lennon was a great songwriter in his 20s (not so much after), so people forget a lot of the bad stuff about him - especially because he marketed himself as the “peace and love” guy. He was far from it.

But it’s probably for the best to separate the art from the artist otherwise we wouldn’t be able to look at or listen to a lot of stuff.
