.@FOXSports has made a change to its FIFA World Cup 2026 video workflow. The stream will no longer be in native 4K, as the source feed will now be in 1080p HDR, and upconverted to 4K.
FOX didn't disclose why the change was being made.

@rico907 It's HD, not UHD. I cannot see if it's HDR or SDR, but probably SDR. I'm not sure what the 'A' here means. Many other tests cards show a 'C' here. CSF = Clean Stadium Feed, as opposed to ESF = Enhanced Stadium Feed.

@WUSJLEO1622 The 'C' I don't know, but ESF means Extended Stadium Feed. There's also CSF - Clean Stadium Feed. These are the two main feeds, which are produced in native 4K HDR. Additional feeds are done in 1080p HDR.

Better legible overview this time: in high-res (near 4K)
@EderChavez7 Sounds great, thanks for the heads-up!
Are you sure though it's 4K? It occurs to me they've renamed the channel from TSN4K to TSNHDR, which suggests to me this is 1080p HD with HDR.
(Also, would you happen to know which HDR flavor?)
@wojtek_fz@PMLeonarski@Justycjariusz As far as I know, TVP broadcasts the World Cup 2026 on TVP 1 HD, TVP 2 HD, and TVP Sport HD in HD SDR only, without Dolby Atmos. This at least is what my contact at TVP tells me. Have I missed anything? Is there a pay-TV operator with an Ultra HD signal?

@axskqr@ABCD1987_@Alejandro947174@1080i60 BBC iPlayer reportedly works with a VPN and without a subscription. It's native 4K HDR but with stereo only, and 54 out of 104 matches.
@Johnnykolesen Still, my remark was about the TV hardware as much as it was about the content. 100-inch+ is the new norm, and it may not look as great from the same viewing distance, even if more "immersive"
Brief reminder: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝟰𝗞
The TV screen diameter has been on the rise since decades, meanwhile the viewing distance (living room size) has remained pretty much unchanged. That means the resolution has to go up, from SD to HD and to Ultra HD. This is why we need 4K
@Johnnykolesen Upscaling helps solving the equation where there is a dearth of 4K content, or where there is 4K content but not enough bandwidth, or not enough budget to pay the necessary bandwidth, or unwillingness to spend...
Up to a point. You can't stretch this infinitely.
