I was very sad indeed to hear the news of Diane’s death – a much-loved part of the HMCTS Liverpool family, even after her retirement, and a real reminder that often those who work with us as contractors are central to what we do and how we do it. 1/2
EXCLUSIVE to BarTalk, out later today: Susan Acland-Hood, Chief Executive @HMCTSgovuk guest blogs for the Bar Council on having the Chair of the Bar on speed dial and making sure the courts and tribunals keep running despite the Covid-19 crisis.
Our contractors, from interpreters to security staff, engineers to cleaners, also play a big part in enabling courts & tribunals to continue. We applaud you tonight along with everyone else working in the justice system. @ENGIE_UK#JusticeHeroes 2/2
Tonight, we’re thanking everyone who works in our courts and tribunals to keep our vital justice system functioning. We applaud you all – you are all, in our eyes, #JusticeHeroes 1/2
#HMCTS and #MoJ please put in place a coronavirus job retention scheme for #feepaidjudges#ddjs and #tribunaljudges whose sittings have been cancelled until June or are self isolating or looking after vulnerable people. So far there is nothing.
Back in court 3 today where it all began 4yrs ago with the Judges first hearing. 1030am start time. As it’s a private hearing we can’t update until given permission but as/when we can share it will be here first. #PolicePensions
Huge thanks to all @LeighDayEmploy 👏🏻👏🏻
The Lord Chancellor affirming his support for an independent judiciary and arguing against political appointment. The primary function of the Supreme Court is not a constitutional court.
provisional estimate by gov is that impact of pension challenge judgment could cost equivalent of around £4b pa. with that estimate we think they have included compensating every public sector worker they pension shafted. signed up to challenge or not. Fingers crossed 🤞
@CopsAgainst I sympathise with your point of view, however, how can the previous scheme valuations be accurate until there has been a remedy to the legal case? The valuations would have to be done again.
So, In making a conscious decision to ignore advice and flout equality legislation, government now seek to place the burden of its mistake on members of the pension schemes...this is no different to the commutation factor debacle and only right that Government foots the bill!!
@Kirkabout This is kind of why we are trying to do more with technology.... happy to look at why it wasn’t used in this case if you would like (noting that if video is available there is also always a judicial decision about whether it is suitable, and that must be the right principle)
