A shot clock solves this. 30-35 seconds is plenty of time to work for a good shot and a defense should be rewarded if they get the stop

@ByRyanWood The defense can go out and chase the ball handlers out on the perimeter but taking the air out of the ball with that much time left is just garbage basketball. Perfectly within the current rules but not how the game is supposed to be played. A shot clock prevents that nonsense.
