I’m furious this morning after watching the video and reading some comments that he should have just complied. Comply with humiliation. Comply with the police’s refusal to answer basic questions. Comply with the real threat to your life. Comply with being treated like an animal.
Was I really a "good kid" or was I acting like a miniature adult to impress adults? I'm realizing how harmful that desire to please authority has been in my life and what I could have stood to learn from my peers who didn't take everything the authority figures said at face value

I hate that you perceived what I said as...
It's been brought to my attention that my words could've been offensive and....
Try:
I was wrong.
That wasn't cool.
I see why.
I am sorry.
