In the past the word 'hundred' in Arabic used to be written as (مائة) by adding an additional 'Alif' after 'Mim'. The reason was to make it look different to (منه) as the handwriting can sometimes be confusing.
However, nowadays the experts suggest to write it like this: (مئة) =
