British Columbians are about to be handed a political opportunity that almost never exists in modern democracy.

For once, this election does not have to be a contest between two personalities. It can be something much more fundamental: a referendum on the government itself.

Forget for a moment who the alternative Premier might ultimately be. That question can come later. The question immediately before British Columbians is simpler: after looking at the last several years, at our finances, affordability, housing, health care, public safety, economic growth and the opportunities available to our children are we satisfied with the direction of this province, or do we want a different one?

That is an extraordinary way to hold an election.

The Conservatives enter it with an interim leader who, under the party’s constitution, cannot subsequently seek the permanent leadership. So the usual personality contest has, at least partly, been stripped away.

First comes a judgment on the government and the direction of British Columbia.

Then comes an entirely separate political debate about who should lead the alternative and what that next chapter should look like.

Whatever your politics, think about how rare that is.

British Columbia has everything it needs to be one of the most prosperous, dynamic and hopeful places anywhere in North America. Extraordinary natural resources. Brilliant entrepreneurs. World-class cities and communities. Access to the Pacific. Talented people who still believe deeply in what this province can become.

This election gives British Columbians an unusually clear opportunity to ask whether we’re realizing that potential.

Not who has the better slogan. Not who won the debate. Not which personality we like more.

Where are we going? Is it working? And what do we want British Columbia to become?

An incumbent government normally gets to run against another person. This time, it may find itself running against something much bigger: the public’s judgment of its record and its hopes for the future.

That could make this one of the purest referendums on the direction of an incumbent government that we have seen anywhere in North America in a very long time.

What an extraordinary opportunity for British Columbia.

Why?

Let me recap the COVID scam.

A man-made virus leaked out of a lab.

They hid it with a meat market story.

No one fell for it, so they ramped up the rhetoric.

They used a flawed test to increase cases.

People finally started to panic.

A real cricis emergend.

The lab leak story was averted.

They tried to end the crisis with slogans like "2 weeks to flatten the curve" and "herd immunity".

The cases continued to pile up because of the flawed tests.

We passed the herd immunity threshold.

The cases continued to climb because of the flawed test.

They then bet on a vaccine to end the pandemic.

They couldn't use a vaccine, because there were other treatments available (Ivermectin, HCQ).

They demonized Ivermectin.

They imposed Draconian mandates, such as travel quarantine hotels.

They rushed a vaccine, based on a new technology, into production.

The started jabbing people.

The jabbs caused more cases.

The invented variants of the virus.

They mandated the jabs.

The imposed more restrictions, like vaccine passports.

The cases continued to increase.

They increased the number of doses.

The vaccines and the flawed testing caused more cases.

Some politicians saw this as an opportunity for a Great Reset or simply to grab more power.

The truckers protested.

Trudeau prepared for his Great Reset by imposing martial law.

Russia invaded Ukraine, and we now had a new crisis to replace COVID.

Basically a novel virus spread, institutions guessed wrong, overpromised, punished dissent, and then clung to tools that stopped working. Governments had ample opportunities to admit they were wrong, at numerous points along the way, and end this. Instead, they plunged us into 3 years hell that destroyed lives and livelihoods.

No one has ever been held accountable. There are still people defending this. Heck, some have even been rewarded for their incompetence.

Starbucks Stabber (murderer) Inderdeep Singh Gosal has been CLEARED of murder and convicted of only manslaughter after stabbing Vancouver father Paul Schmidt six times outside a downtown Starbucks in the middle of the day.

Mental illness, intoxication and panic were enough to create doubt that he intended to kill him.

“The confrontation leading up to a fatal stabbing was started by the victim, a BC judge said.”

Our “justice system” is a complete joke.
