just discovered I RT’d a tweet I have no recollection of seeing and actually find offensive, which has been the top of my feed for more than a month. Not sure how this happened.
@Mr_Maracas@jayneb64@AbsoluteLeePod@Baddiel It can be read both ways. Either as an acknowledgment it could have been wrong or as further indulging the hypothetical. I think it’s the latter as following “let’s say it was wrong…” (just admit it was, not hard).
@shudall@Mikey_Health@philbc3 I will admit there are probably areas of the constituency that do feel/actually are neglected by the MP so don’t think I’m saying nobody is allowed to challenge, just reflecting on how CLPs function
@shudall@Mikey_Health@philbc3 Been on the ale have we? Not my most coherent tweets I’ll admit but I at least understand how the [un]democratic structures of the Lab Party operate. You’ll be lucky to name 20 people who campaign every week across the whole constituency.
@PaulMiffo @jillyt1983 @jamieeast There’s over 60 million people in the UK and something like 45 million are white. Probably more. I didn’t mention men.
@si_mcav @DrJoGrady @worcester_uni I get that, and wish you every success. To put it in more concrete terms: last 3 prof services departments I’ve worked in have had less than 60 staff combined, 10 ppl reporting to directors. Those ppl are wide open to retaliation so faced w/ a serious dilemma by UCU’s approach
@si_mcav @DrJoGrady @worcester_uni They will lose pay based on ASOS with little redress and I’d suggest the methods of mgmt/HR departments slick/sophisticated to the extent tribunals rarely uphold claims. ‘Troublemakers’ too easily managed out. UCU should stick to being a lecturers union if it won’t address this
@tomacorn1 @jillyt1983 @jamieeast Thanks. I think that’s what it comes down to, subconscious prejudice and affinity bias as much as (or more than) overt and deliberate racism. The show editing hasn’t given these people the chance to succeed
@si_mcav @DrJoGrady @worcester_uni Your reply actually demonstrates my issue (and I know you make it in good faith) as UCU is not just for lecturers. There are plenty of UCU members in admin, clerical, HR, and facilities roles who reporting to execs. This action fails to acknowledge this disparity between members
@MartinHeneghan @acupunctureUSS@ucu As I see it, it’s an elitist union in an elitist field and it’s own structures do not recognise the complex landscape of HE or the wildly varying socioeconomic conditions of its members (compared to more homogeneous unions)
@tomacorn1 @jillyt1983 @jamieeast I do accept that there are obviously bigger more recognised names in the show which make them more likely to attract votes but again I think this speaks to something about our society
@tomacorn1 @jillyt1983 @jamieeast I get that. We have different definitions of racism though. I say the two Black women being the least favourite says something about the prejudice our white supremacist societal structures perpetuates. I know that’s different than voting for the most hated (surely Hancock)
