APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN TO UMAHI: āYOU ARE PRESIDENT TINUBUāS SIGNATURE BOYā AS PLATEAU MONARCH CONFERS NGOROG NGASMWA TITLE ON THE MINISTER
The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, was on Thursday, July 2, 2026, honoured with the prestigious traditional title of Ngorog Ngasmwa (Lover of Ngas) by the Pankshin and Kanke Joint Traditional Rulers Council during the flag-off of the Rehabilitation of the Babban LambaāSharam (Phase II) Road in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The honour, conferred by the Chairman of the Pankshin and Kanke Joint Traditional Rulers Council and Ngolong Ngas, HRH Nde Jika Golit, was in recognition of Senator Umahi's commitment to infrastructure development and his role in bringing the important road project to the area under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While conferring the traditional title on the Minister, the royal father described him as a trusted friend of the Ngas people and welcomed him into the Ngas nation. "You come to Ngasland not as a stranger, but as an honoured ally. In deep appreciation of this assignment and in recognition of your role in flagging off this landmark project within my Chiefdom, I am honoured to confer on you the prestigious Traditional Title of Ngorot Ngasmwa (Lover of Ngas). I therefore welcome you today as a distinguished member of my Council of Traditional Title Holders."
The royal father further declared: "You are welcome to Ngas Land. It's our honour that you have become an Ngas son. You are now the same as our son, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda. He will teach you the language."
Responding to the honour, the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi, CON, expressed profound appreciation to the Pankshin and Kanke Joint Traditional Rulers Council for the unexpected recognition bestowed on him. He also commended the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as an energetic and divinely inspired leader. "I thank you for the honour done to me. I want to tell you that your son, now my brother, is very energetic and divine, the man that will deliver Mr. President come 2027. Thank you again," the Minister said.
Welcoming the Minister as the newest Ngorog Ngasmwa of the Ngas nation, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who hails from Dungung in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, paid glowing tribute to Senator Umahi's performance as Minister of Works and the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. "My brother, my friend, the workaholic Minister, the man that has made the difference, the clear difference in terms of infrastructure transformation in Nigeria, you are constructing thousands of roads across Nigeria. It has never happened before. You have done what is incredible. You are the signature boy of Mr. President."
He continued: "We are proud of you and we remain very proud of you. Coming from the South East, the first Minister of Works from the South East appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the first significant Minister from the South East, and you have demonstrated that bringing you was never a mistake. Thank you for the great work you are doing on behalf of Mr. President."
Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, also paid glowing tribute to the Honourable Minister of Works, describing him as one of the brightest performers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. FG FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF AKWANGAāJOSāBAUCHIāGOMBEāBIUāMAIDUGURI SUPERHIGHWAY, COMMISSIONS AKWANGA TOWNSHIP DUAL CARRIAGEWAY AND UNDERPASS
The Federal Government has officially flagged off the construction of Section One of the 700-kilometre AkwangaāJosāBauchiāGombeāBiuāMaiduguri Superhighway, reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR's commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The flag-off ceremony, held on the 1st July, 2026, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, where the President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was represented by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, stated that the project is one of the President's four Renewed Hope Legacy Road Projects, designed to transform Nigeria's transportation network, strengthen national integration, improve security, facilitate trade, and stimulate economic growth across the North-Central and North-East geopolitical zones.
The first phase of the project covers approximately 125 kilometres from Akwanga in Nasarawa State to Jos in Plateau State and forms part of the larger 700-kilometre, six-lane, continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) superhighway stretching through Nasarawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno States.
The President's representative praised the Minister of Works for his exceptional leadership and dedication to transforming Nigeria's road sector, describing him as one of the administration's most outstanding performers.
He described the Minister of Works as āthe shining light of the Renewed Hope Administration.ā
Speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. Sen. David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE, disclosed that the project is a landmark investment that will improve connectivity, reduce travel time, enhance road safety, lower transportation costs, create jobs, and unlock the regionās economic potential. He explained that the AkwangaāMaiduguri Superhighway is one of four legacy highway corridors being implemented simultaneously by the Federal Government, alongside the LagosāCalabar Coastal Highway, the SokotoāBadagry, and the CalabarāAbuja (Trans Sahara) Superhighways.
The Minister reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to CRCP technology to ensure greater durability, lower maintenance costs, and a lifespan of up to 100 years. He commended President Tinubu for his untiring support for infrastructure development and urged the contractor to deliver quality work, while engaging local communities through employment, skills acquisition, and technology transfer.
The President's representative also commissioned the newly completed Akwanga Township Dual Carriageway and Underpass, executed by the Nasarawa State Government under the leadership of the Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, CON. He commended him for complementing the Federal Government's infrastructure drive through strategic investments in road development across the state.
In his Welcome Address, the Honourable Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., stated that the Superhighway would serve as a major transportation corridor linking North-Central and North-East Nigeria, while facilitating trade, agriculture, investment, and national security.
Also speaking at the well-attended event, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammad Idris, highlighted the Federal Government's unprecedented investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic reforms, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering tangible benefits across all sectors and the country.
