Hasina: 15 years of fascism

Where to begin?

I had read about fascism. I knew what it was in theory—on paper, in books, in history. But I never truly saw it with my own eyes, never really understood what it meant to live under it, until Arman Bhaiya.

His real name is Mir Ahmed Bin Quasem, but to us, he was simply Arman Bhaiya. He had a real estate business relationship with my mother, and he would sometimes come over to our house. He was charming, animated, full of life.

Then one day, he was gone.

I kept asking my mother, “What happened to Arman Bhaiya? Why doesn’t he come over anymore?” And she told me, “They took him away because he was Mir Quasem Ali’s son.”

That was it. No crime. No accusation. A regular, kind, everyday person was made to disappear just like that.

He was disappeared for nothing more than his last name.

And it didn’t stop there.

Our family, none of whom were involved in politics, faced years of harassment simply because we knew Arman bhaiya & his family. That was enough. The Hasina cronies showed up. They harassed us, tried to seize our businesses & justified it all with one excuse—𝘰𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘢𝘵.

As if Jamaat, by definition, meant being a criminal. As if no further explanation was needed, just the label itself was enough to justify persecution.

It didn’t matter whether someone was guilty of anything. The mere whisper of an association was enough to make them a target.

𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 in a mayoral election:
I had finally reached voting age. I knew the election would be rigged. Everyone did. But I still thought, “So what if it’s rigged? I’m still going to vote.”

At the Lalbagh Polling Center, I stepped into the women’s section. There was a curtain for privacy, but privacy was an illusion.

The polling agents, all men, watched me. They peered over the curtain, spying on my ballot. And when they realized I wasn’t voting for Awami League, they tried to stop me.

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦.”

I was scared. Scared that if I pushed back, they might physically harass me or worse. So I didn’t vote. I walked away.

That’s what voting was under Hasina. A farce.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗱: A fellow BUETian, three years my junior. I didn’t know him personally, but I knew many who did.

He was beaten to death. Not by criminals. Not by thugs from the street. By his own peers, in his own dormitory, over hours of torture. By students from his own university.

But they weren’t just students. They were Hasina’s cronies.

His crime? He was unapologetically himself. He was unapologetically outspoken about politics. He was unapologetically Muslim.

And for that, he was murdered.

Even though I never met Abrar, I felt like I knew him. Like we all did. And maybe that’s what broke me the most. Any of us could’ve been Abrar Fahad. Maybe if we’d all been as fearless as him, he’d still be alive.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲: There was an English-speaking Islam class in Dhanmondi. People from all backgrounds came—students, professionals, even public figures. Completely apolitical. No activism, no politics—just people learning about their faith.

But that didn’t matter. Because in 2016, the government shut it down. Apparently, Islam itself had become a threat.

And then, of course, there was 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮:
Every newspaper was bought. Every news channel controlled. If someone spoke up, a BS article would appear, slandering them, fabricating stories, destroying their reputation.

You couldn’t trust anything. Not the news. Not the media. Not even reality.

Because everything, the entire country, was rewritten to fit the regime’s narrative.

And that’s just scratching the surface.

There are so many other instances to talk about. I’ve lived through it all.

And I’m just lucky.

Lucky that I didn’t die. Lucky that I didn’t lose a family member to this regime like so many did.

That Mamata questions the human rights and minority rights of Bangladesh which is absolutely ridiculous.

The style of her claim is like Sunny Leone claiming that she is a virgin and the world should accept that. 🤣

This woman has no minimum shame.

the way Indian women are oppressed and human rights violations happen around Mamatis state that is inside. In comparison them Bangladesh has less than 1% of incidents like this. Such whining by India and its leaders is completely petty and purposeful.

Bangladesh will move at its own pace, we will solve our internal problems.
