The NBA combine concludes today, with Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn each raising their respective draft stocks over the past seven days.
Smith averaged 9 pts, 4 rebs and 5 assists to go along with 2 steals in 24 minutes-per-game across two scrimmages. He sets up his teammates with plenty of open looks and he doesn’t turn the ball over. Smith said he is not only the best passer in the draft but in basketball - he’ll get a chance to prove it.
If I was a handicapper, I’d set his draft spot at 42.5 and take the under. Watch for Memphis at 32 (ironically, that pick is from Indiana) or for them to trade down and grab him closer to 40. He’d be a good fit there or in Denver, IMO, who would need to trade up from pick 49 in order to get him.
TKR had a minor ankle injury from the g-league scrimmage that kept him out of the nba scrimmages after being called up. Still, in the pro-am and gleague scrimmages he played in, teams got to see his physicality can translate to the next level along with a 3-pt shot some may not have known he has.
My perfect spot for TKR would be a contender who could use a bruiser off the bench. Teams like the Spurs, Knicks (pick 55) or Wolves (pick 59) would be good fits.
And don’t forget what TKR brings to his team off the court. He is loyal, a great person who teammates love, and very thoughtful (Philosophy major). The Wizards at 60 could use a locker-room-guy like Trey to help their young core/chemistry. Just thinking out loud at this point.
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I’m immensely proud and appreciative of both these guys no matter what happens on June 23rd & 24th.

@joeroganhq She didn’t want to go on the show. I really wanted her to do the show too. I wanted to hear her have a real conversation about something other than politics. Could have changed my mind possibly. Maybe she believes in dragons too, we will never know.
John Calipari goes OFF for nearly SEVEN MINUTES about current state of college athletics & the Trentyn Flowers story in CBB. I haven't seen him this fired up in a press conference...ever?
@RightScopee We let a 21 second video with no audio of the conversation tell the story.
Did this guy take things from other students? Was there something said to the students prior to graduation that they were not allowed to bring anything with them?
Lots of questions!
