Project exploring people's experiences of underpasses in Newcastle upon Tyne (and elsewhere) led by Northumbria University's Clare Wiper and Ian R. Cook.
Felt very different going through two of the underpasses under West Denton Way yesterday, now that they've become mural walkways. Really good art in there! Artist Mark One87 talks about it here: https://t.co/o77NDvJq9H @NewcastleCC
I helped out on @JordanCReeve's YouTube documentary about the pedestrian underpasses in Newcastle. Watch it below. Also, watch Jordan's other videos about the built environment in Newcastle and elsewhere (as they are great!)

Have you drawn, painted or written on the interiors or exteriors of pedestrian underpasses in Newcastle? At @NorthumbriaUni we want to have short interviews with people (aged 18+) who have. All anonymous. Email [email protected] if you have/are interested. Thanks!! 😊
@SueAbbo13345861 Hi Sue. Random I know, but are you the Sue Abbott in this document? We're doing research on underpasses in Newcastle, currently focusing on the art within them.
@neheritagelib@neheritagelib Fab. That's intrigued me. Soon I may become one of very few people to go down the Coast Road visiting every underpass along the way!
We’re interviewing people about their experiences of Newcastle underpasses. We'd like to hear more about underpasses that have been removed. If you remember any in the list below fairly well & would like to be interviewed for ≤30 mins, email [email protected]. Thanks 👍
@neheritagelib@neheritagelib Nice. Where on the Coast Road is this one? Haven't been to all of the Coast Road ones (there's quite a few!) This one also has the same shipping container/radiator front look as a couple in Newcastle (Brunswick Village, Blucher). #underpassgeek
@scottish_border@libby_brooks@scottish_border By any chance were you involved with the murals in Newcastle's Swan House roundabout underpasses and the mosaics in the Jesmond Road underpass (late 70s/early 80s)? The murals/mosaics were organised by Town Teacher. Am trying to get hold of anyone involved.
