It’s really important for terms that are developed to describe abuse to remain specific to what they describe. These terms allow victims to identify and name abusive behaviour

Trauma bonding = connection between an abusive person and their victim which are developed and reinforced through cycles of abuse. They’re the reason a victim feels sympathy & affection for their abuser.

One day, we will have a conversation on Twitter and will focus on poorer women with limited privileges because always focusing on upper class women give us this delusion that the majority of women and mothers have it going well and have the luxury of choice.

The conversation we should be having is how the burden of parenting is placed on women. Unhelpful partnerships as a norm.

The majority of women in Nigeria are poor so can’t even afford crèche so 2 weeks old babies have to be strapped to back as their mom return to work.

Poorer women nowadays return to work days and weeks after having a baby.

The woman that roasts corn on my street, came back to roast corn 48hrs after birth cause her children have to eat and her husband doesn’t provide that food.

In majority of homes, if women don’t return to work immediately after birth, the older kids will starve, rent would be uncompleted, school fees unpaid, family’s standard of living will drop.

We are having this conversation with the lie that men are the primary providers.

My dad came to my school to remove my sister when my mum registered her in crèche. He was angry, said she wasn’t old enough and then my mum started dropping her in his office, on day 3, he took her back.

A 3 month is old enough for crèche in today’s society and marriages.
