@Ryan_Floberg For real! Quite literally the Nike effect. As soon as ties were cut and Adidas took over as main sponsor, it immediately started to decline imo. Footlocker, Gatorade, etc. were not activating the same or bringing much energy. Nike was there every weekend bringing in star power.
Artists should talk about money. 10 years ago I had sold 2 pieces of art in my entire life, $125 for the first piece. $150 for the second piece. Both to the same person. I had been making work for 8 years before I sold anything (2008-2016). I had a full time job btw. And would go to the studio for 6-7 hours a night after I got off work, often times sleeping at my studio. But even before I sold my first piece of art (while I was working full time), I knew I was destined to be an art star. In this last month I’ve had two sales over a quarter million dollars each.
Believe in yourself. You can do whatever the fuck you want.
@vladieboi@GawdofFrames Agreed, which definitely makes it easier to manage. Knowing they aren’t overselling a quantity that won’t be available. That’s where I see potential issues, finger slips and adds an extra 0 or the retailer sets inaccurate size allocation. Overall it’s a net-positive to me.
@GawdofFrames For sure. Any added step is a potential hiccup, but sooner they get things in order, the better it will be for all. They will eventually be doing this with other retailers — so using these brands to get reps in and learn some best practices has to start as some point.

@corey_whatever Exactly. It’s a reactionary move. I think that’s the part people are missing. If the Knicks don’t make the Finals, there is no shoe. If they hadn’t announced a pre-order model last year and kicked it off with Tom Sachs, there is no shoe. People need to learn to be happy.
