Safety is a shared responsibility, which is why we partnered with the Set Me Free Project, Omaha Police Department and Department of Homeland Security to raise awareness about human trafficking and shift the conversation to prevention and action.
At the Omaha event, EVP and CFO Jennifer Hamann led a discussion and welcomed Omaha Mayor John W. Ewing Jr. , who emphasized the need for awareness and action.
Safety extends beyond our railroad. This National Safety Month, learn how to recognize, report and help prevent human trafficking in your community.
If you see something, say something. Call the National Human Trafficking Hotline: (888)-373-7888.
At the 2026 Railway Interchange Conference, Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena sent a clear message: the competitive landscape is shifting, and rail must move now. Rail moves about 27% of U.S. freight ton-miles today, compared to trucking’s 43% – highlighting both the competitive gap and the runway for growth. https://t.co/xsH1KuF0Ta
We’re still over the moon about Tuesday’s shipment of @NASA Artemis III rocket parts! 🚀 Proud to partner with @northropgrumman and @WabtecCorp supporting NASA’s lunar exploration program.

Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena joined CNBC to highlight progress toward creating America’s first transcontinental railroad – with a mid-2027 target in sight.
Hours later, Big Boy #UP4014 headed east on its first coast-to-coast tour, after 61,000 fans turned out in West Chicago.
A powerful reminder of where we’ve been – and where we’re going. https://t.co/h0EZb6Elu6
🚀 From America’s rails to the moon! 🌕 Built by @WabtecCorp and unveiled with @northropgrumman , our newest commemorative locomotive #up4547 began its first mission hauling @NASA Artemis III rocket components, powering the next era of exploration.
Former NASA astronaut Doug Hurley captured it well at the unveiling ceremony: “Together, we are taking the next leap for humanity.” https://t.co/X9rN4NDS70

Union Pacific welcomed our employees and their families to our Omaha Family Day where they could meet both our Big Boy #UP4014 steam locomotive as well as US Speedskating Olympians Giorgia Birkeland and Cooper McLeod. https://t.co/9eRc5BP65Y
As #UP4014 Big Boy's Coast-to-Coast tour moves across the U.S., the consist will revise periodically. We've added #UP1776, our #America250 locomotive featuring our dramatic American flag earlier this week. Now Union Pacific's Heritage Fleet has been added to the consist in Omaha as we say goodbye to TTX's beautiful patriotic boxcars, which we were using for braking support until we could pick up the Heritage Fleet.
We welcomed 79 interns to our Omaha headquarters, kicking off the 2026 program and continuing to attract top talent from across the country. Representing 48 universities and 23 states, this class will gain hands-on experience, support real projects and build connections across the railroad. 🤝 We're proud to keep the momentum going after earning @joinHandshake's Early Talent Award for the third year in a row.
We reached a milestone today: The Surface Transportation Board (STB) accepted our application to merge with @nscorp, a positive step toward a reinvigorated, more competitive U.S. rail industry.
Creating America’s first transcontinental railroad will reduce costs for American shippers and consumers. Shifting freight from higher-cost trucks to lower-cost rail is projected to save shippers an estimated $3.5 billion annually.
We are confident in the value this merger will deliver for all stakeholders and the broader economy. We acknowledge the STB’s request for additional information and are committed to working constructively with the agency.

Locomotive Engineer John Varnell doesn’t just talk about safety – he lives it. Whether he’s mentoring the next generation of railroaders, partnering with logging crews to improve grade crossing awareness or showing up for the Pine Bluff community in Arkansas, he has built a reputation for leading with heart, accountability and action. His impact earned Union Pacific’s highest union safety honor, the J.C. Kenefick Award.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Today, we're proud to kick off the eastern leg of our coast-to-coast tour as Big Boy #up4014 heads east from its home base in Cheyenne, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Today’s freight rail system depends on fragmented networks, handoffs and delays that increase costs across the supply chain.
The Union Pacific–Norfolk Southern combination will create the first seamless transcontinental freight rail network in U.S. history, strengthening domestic shipping capacity, reducing highway congestion and improving service reliability for businesses that depend on rail.
A more connected network = lower costs. Shifting freight from higher-cost trucks to lower-cost rail is projected to save shippers an estimated $3.5 billion annually – savings expected to flow through to consumer prices. Learn more: https://t.co/ruFEOk1Cri
Our track inspectors are getting a high-tech assist.
With AI-powered Machine Vision, teams can identify changes in track conditions earlier and focus more time on what matters most – keeping the railroad running safely. That means fewer disruptions and more reliable service, keeping American supply chains moving every day. https://t.co/1tfTzO9yte
Union Pacific's Eric Gehringer highlighted the proposed Union Pacific- @nscorp merger’s benefits at the Southwestern Rail Conference in Hurst, Texas, outlining how the combination will strengthen safety and service while unlocking growth. By eliminating interchange points, the combined system will improve speed, reliability and efficiency – enhancing rail’s ability to compete with trucking.
He also reinforced Union Pacific’s commitments, including maintaining open gateways, preserving customer choice and honoring the unprecedented union jobs-for-life guarantee. Gehringer noted the merger builds on the strong performance of both railroads and will be executed through a disciplined integration approach focused on safety, service and long-term value for customers and the communities served.
