Watson was ostensibly there to discuss Steinem’s memoir “My Life on the Road.” Instead, the two spoke about erotica, the work of the researcher Valerie Hudson, the problem of gender inequality. Their friendship lasted until Steinem’s death, last Wednesday.

On July 15th, Watson visited Steinem at her brownstone.
