My first impressions Cybertruck Cybertent:

When you love tech & design more than camping, you get this tent. Unfortunately, I fall into this category, so I absolutely love it.

A few things to get warmed up:
📐 This tent costs $3k.
📐 Tesla installs it for you at your Service Center.
📐 Some of the hardware has been updated since the release earlier this year.

The outside layer has the rainshell built in (I love this, waterproof by default), with easy access to screens and windows all around. It’s sturdy as hell for an inflatable tent, meaning the wind isn’t going to blow it around much. There’s pockets and storage *everywhere*, and a pass-through for cables to the Powershare outlets in the bed.

Most of the materials and build quality were above-average in the camping tent world. Most buckles had redundant stitchings, but other flaps that sit taught around CT’s sharp edges don’t look like they’ll last. Zippers are beefy, and the structural air tubing felt strong (aka hard to pop)

The tent’s bed material is a bit thin. I’ll probably be taking a separate mattress to put on top, but any bedding (pillows, blankets, etc.) must be removed to put the tent away.

All that said, the tent is absolutely perfect for the truck.

It fills the entire bed, so the tent itself feels open, light, and not at all cramped. Two adults can easily sleep in there. The tent sits partially on top of sides of the truck bed, so your camping platform is quite literally edge to edge.

Better yet, when stowed, the tent doesn’t take up much room at all. I will have no problem packing the truck to the gills with that tent for a long range camping trip. It’s not terribly heavy either. Remove two screws, and the entire thing pops out. One big brick.

The Cybertent Mode in the truck is sick. The truck auto-levels in its parking spot, then changes the UI to have easy access to lights, outlet controls, etc. Even the phone app changes a little!

There was a lot of attention placed on the function of this tent. Everything from the location of flaps or quick releases, to how seams run in various places. Someone, somewhere, made this their passion project of the decade— and it shows.

I want to make sure you understand this tent is STUDY. The bed platform sits on the L-tracks with additional legs on the tailgate. You can jump up and down, roll around, punch the sidewalls— this thing isn’t moving. I’m incredibly impressed by the strength all around.

Packing it down is really easy. Release the air, unclip the pillar supports, and fold it up. I bet I could get my teardown to <5min, but setup will always be a lengthy process. Took me more than an hour the first time, but I’m reserving my final conclusion on setup time until I’m familiar with the system.

My biggest complaint? The Aero Flap removal. God what a terrible design choice. It’s beyond stupidity. Get ready for this rant:

In order to blow up the tent, you have to remove a piece of trim over the rear window (it protects the tonneau cover mechanism from debris, and improves aero). Previous versions of the tent required you to take a torx wrench to the aero flap every time you needed to remove it, but they’ve since added a quick-release mechanism. Once removed, you have to store this piece of plastic— which is the width of the truck— somewhere else. Under the aero flap is a bit of foam also, which I suppose acts as another debris catcher. Mine doesn’t appear to be glued on correctly, which is going to be a problem in the future. I’m generally upset that a $3k tent requires me to take apart my truck to use it (it’s reminiscent of the official CCS adapter).

So anyways, there isn’t a better tent for Cybertruck. It maximizes space and function, and appears to be built to last.

Me and my $3k tent will be stuck like glue for the foreseeable future. 🤞
