Between Tielemans and Baleba joining, #mufc considered signing an outright LB: Lewis Hall.

Mount was performing well in pre-season, and staff including Carrick felt Hall might be needed more, in providing competition for Shaw, than another midfielder.

#mufc looked at a deal around the £50m mark for Hall and at that point believed a move to Old Trafford, and Champions League football, would have held appeal to him.

But the pursuit significantly slowed down about 3 weeks before deadline when Omar Berrada placed a call to Newcastle United chief executive David Hopkinson to directly address the matter at the top level and was told Hall was not for sale. The club essentially accepted this stance.

#mufc did not move to sign another left-back of major profile, to keep the path clear for Hall in future. The situation is expected to be revisited next summer at the latest.
