Watched @unlikelyfandom finally yesterday. Dunno why I haven’t until now but regardless @cartycinema really made something special. I will admit I got misty eyed hearing the words of a certain someone near the end.
Now including LIVE STREAM! Splot and Full-Steam-Ahead are thrilled to present ’85 Years Of Letting Off Steam’ An Evening With Christopher Awdry.
Hosted by the legendary Pete Waterman, Christopher will be joined by very special guests — TV show composer Mike O’Donnell, illustrator Clive Spong, and narrator Mark Moraghan — and we’d love for you to join us in a celebratory deep dive into Christopher’s life, covering some of the things you may know, and some you certainly won’t! Featuring never publicly seen before artefacts and media, this is one night you won’t want to miss!
We’re thrilled to announce that the event will now be LIVE STREAMED!
To purchase tickets to the live event, or the live stream please click on the button below.
(Please note: VENUE CHANGE. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the show will now take place at London’s CONWAY HALL and not the EVENTIM APOLLO. All tickets remain valid, and will be transferred to the new theatre. For those attending, special limited edition treats will be waiting for you, which will not be available anywhere else!)
We look forward to seeing you there!
So, we’re currently going through Christopher’s archives, getting content ready for the show on the 25th June and we come across this, one of the original test recordings of Edward’s Day Out, narrated by Rev Awdry. Expect a sneak peek soon showing Rev Awdry’s record collection in all its glory, including a never heard before Audition record from 1956 from someone other than Rev Awdry!
We took a break, and I think everyone can agree it's gotten way out of control and gone on long enough.
Our lives are now very different, and things won't be quite the same, but we are back to finish what we started.

One night. One stage. Eighty-five years of stories now with even more voices from the world of Sodor.
On 25 June, London’s iconic Eventim Apollo will host a truly special one-off evening as “85 Years Of Letting Off Steam” expands its line-up with newly announced guests spanning page, screen and sound.
Joining Christopher Awdry on stage will be Mike O'Donnell, the original composer behind the beloved Thomas & Friends television score; Clive Spong, whose detailed artwork helped define the visual identity of The Railway Series; and Mark Moraghan, one of the modern voices of Sodor. Together, they bring a rare, multi-generational perspective to one of the most enduring storytelling worlds ever created.
Promoted by Splot and Full Steam Ahead, the evening celebrates the life and legacy of Christopher Awdry, storyteller, railway historian, and custodian of a literary phenomenon first imagined by his father, Wilbert Awdry. Across more than eight decades, their stories have evolved from bedtime tales into a global cultural touchstone.
Hosted by legendary producer and rail enthusiast Pete Waterman, the show will guide audiences through Christopher’s remarkable life, from his early writing ambitions and career in the civil service to his pivotal role in continuing The Railway Series between 1983 and 2011, just as the stories made their leap to television and international acclaim.
Adding to the sense of occasion, the event will also unveil an extraordinary collection of private family heirlooms never before seen in public. These include original drafts, handwritten notes, and rare artwork from the Awdry family archives, offering a unique glimpse into the creative process behind the world of Sodor and the meticulous craftsmanship that underpinned it.
More than a retrospective, “85 Years Of Letting Off Steam” is a once-in-a-generation gathering of the voices, talents and history behind a storytelling legacy built on friendship, engineering, resilience and imagination, brought to life on stage for one night only.
