We were on the cusp of having vaccines against the disease that causes Alzheimer's, against cancer, against the flu, and so much more.
Because this administration is so anti-science, we will have none of those things.
15% of the population of Ireland entered the US between 1851 and 1860
9% of the population of Norway entered the US in the 1880s
6% of the population of Italy entered the US from about 1900-1910
Interesting. Puts a different slant on the "why are you upset that voters have to show I.D.?" argument.
Also begs the question: how many legit voters is it worth disenfranchising to weed out anyone who shouldn't be voting?
.@BarackObama: "When I was president, I suppose I could have simply unilaterally ordered the military to go into some red state and harass and intimidate a governor there or cut off funding for states that didn't vote for me... but that is contrary to how I think our democracy is supposed to work."
There were three conclusions from the post election surveys:
1) More ppl are getting their news from social media.
2) Ppl who get their news from social media answer basic factual questions worse than those who get their news from legacy media
3) Ppl who answer basic factual questions worse voted overwhelmingly for Trump
It's not rocket science.
If a Democratic president pardoned a violent criminal who went on to do something like this, it would be the biggest story in politics for weeks.
There would be a media feeding frenzy, hearings, and Dems would be asked to rebuke the President.
With Trump, its just crickets
So if a pro-life Olympian is asked by a journalist, *As someone who thinks abortion is murder, how do you feel about all the abortions in the United States* must they be a cheerleader for that or can they say "Tbh that's a part of American culture I dislike"?
NEW: Donald Trump is trying to force Congress to name things for him.
50 years ago, Congress unanimously tried to name a building for a different president. He vetoed it.
“I know of no Federal office buildings that have been named for a President while still in office,” Gerald Ford wrote. “This legislation might begin a precedent I believe it best not to establish.”
America is a nation of offline moderates, ruled by a small fringe of online extremists.
This situation is wrecking our country.

fwiw Andy McCarthy — conservative lawyer, Fox News legal analyst, National Review contributor, professional hater of Biden, Obama, and Democrats — is diving into Trump's corruption and acknowledged the UAE-crypto scandal alone is far worse than anything alleged about Biden
The most pernicious aspect of right-wing media is what they don't tell their audiences.
The average Fox or Newsmax viewer has almost no knowledge of most of Trump's scandals and crimes. They think they're informed, when just the opposite is happening. https://t.co/8JCEWIj6CE
Exactly. Republicans chose to nominate Trump and they are choosing to ignore the many grounds on which he could be impeached and removed. How bad they believe Democrats to be is irrelevant. They are choosing Trump amid other Republican options. And they own everything he does.
Trump and Miller and Noem lie about immigration all the time - but the big lie at the heart of mass deportations is convincing people that immigration steals public resources from citizens when the truth is the opposite.
It's not just Substack. Here are news sources for Republicans and Democrats.
Republicans don't really pay attention to any serious written publications. Even The Wall Street Journal is more likely to be read by Democrats.
This isn't a media bias issue. Conservatives have seen media startups: see the rise in Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Breitbart, and Newsmax.
They're just all trash. The conservative audience wants conspiracy theories and Trump worship.
I enjoy City Journal, but its readership is small, reflecting that the high IQ, intellectually curious right-leaning audience is extremely small.
No one is stopping rightists from starting a Vox, or Atlantic, or New York Times. The conservative audience just isn't smart enough for it. https://t.co/e6BQ2W9aEC
I try to explain to people that even if I disagree with the left on a lot, ideology matters less than ever.
Think about this. On Spotify, the top podcasts in the country at one point last year were NPR and NYT on the left, and Tucker and Candace on the right.
Imagine aliens came to earth and were studying us. What would they find most interesting about the two political tribes? Would they look at "ideological differences" between Candace and The New York Times? That would not be very interesting. The thing they would find most relevant is one side in politics has real news sources, and the other doesn't.
There is just no way to be a right-wing intellectual. There is no movement that has room for Tucker Carlson and also people who are smart and decent. There isn't an alternative media ecosystem or alternative community you can go to that isn't trash. You have smart people like Vance and Elon, and they're praising Nick Shirley as our greatest contemporary journalist.
Until the right gets smarter and cares about truth, there's no ideological debate to be had. You're dealing with a conflict between two cultures, one that is the product of the Enlightenment and another that belongs in the third world or the Dark Ages. https://t.co/Ve8x2B29DB
