"Like everything in life, if you are willing to make the short-term sacrifice, you’ll have the long-term benefit. 'Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life.'"
Two kinds of happiness.
Worldly happiness is reward from our evolutionary program. Get praise, money, drugs, sex. It busies the mind with craving & anxiety.
Internal happiness is reward from being in flow. Create, meditate, love, play.
It clears the mind & leaves us in peace.
Your potential, the absolute best you’re capable of—that’s the metric to measure yourself against. Your standards are. Winning is not enough. People can get lucky and win. People can be assholes and win. Anyone can win. But not everyone is the best possible version of themselves.
It’s possible, Marcus Aurelius said, to not have an opinion. You don’t have to turn this into something, he reminds himself. You don’t have to let this upset you. You don’t have to think something about everything.
