I was invited to be the presenter at the annual #Shetland Society of Wellington Stout Memorial Lecture last weekend. I gave a presentation on my #Unst One Place Study and generally about Scottish #Genealogy research resources.

Doing a little #genealogy this weekend and came across a very odd looking girls name. I believe it was an misheard version of Catherine, as a result of a strong #Shetland accent.

Make sure you glean all you can from every #genealogy record. For example, informants names can help provide proof that you might not get from other places. Here's an example of that from my #Unst family tree. #FamilyHistory

You never know what you might find scribbled on a record, in this case an 1841 census record. It is ALWAYS worth laying eyes on an image of the original record, and not solely relying on transcriptions.

We need your help!
Can you identify the girls in the image above? We think the photograph is from either Orkney or Shetland, but the girls’ background and the award they appear to have won remain a mystery.
If you have any ideas, let us know!

Lovely views of this juvenile Osprey at Peerie Voe of Spiggie, #Shetland yesterday afternoon. Despite having one of the best trout lochs in Shetland fifty metres away, it decided to fish in the stormy Atlantic - and with great success! @Britnatureguide @SaversSea @PromoteShetland
Wee trip up to #Unst to see the #archaeology I missed on my last #shetland trip (though the smugglers cave is at Burra and the rainbow was on Yell). @ Shetland Islands, Scotland https://t.co/k2HzAZmG57
