Four Ugandan farmers have filed a landmark case at the UK High Court seeking to stop the East African Crude Oil Pipeline before it begins operations in 2027. The $5.6 billion project, led by TotalEnergies, is set to transport oil from Uganda to Tanzania and become the world's longest heated oil pipeline.
“Our clients are seeking an injunction to stop EACOP, the pipeline, from proceeding and from operating,” said Matthew Renshaw of Leigh Day, the law firm leading the case, adding that this is “at the heart of this claim.”
The farmers argue that the project violates Uganda's climate, environmental and constitutional laws. One of the claimants, Rachael Tugume, who says she was displaced from her land by the project, warned: “We are scared that tomorrow there will be oil spills.”
Environmental groups have described EACOP as a “carbon bomb,” warning it could release 379 million tonnes of climate-heating pollution over 20 years. Rights NGO Avaaz, which is supporting the case, says it is believed to be the first time Ugandan environmental laws have been brought before a foreign court. #MMINews #Uganda
PICTORIAL : Parliamentary police have arrested youth activists from Rooted in Resistance as they marched to Parliament to petition against the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure in Uganda.
The activists are calling for an oil-free economy, urging government to redirect investments towards agriculture, tourism, renewable energy and manufacturing, while reviewing existing petroleum policies over concerns about environmental degradation and limited benefits to ordinary Ugandans.

Strongly condemn burning of Holy Quran yesterday at a protest in Sweden. Last March on our govt's initiative the UNGA passed OIC sponsored landmark Res on International Day to Combat Islamophobia. It recognised that Islamophobic acts were not an expression of freedom of speech.
If anyone had any doubts abt US regime change conspiracy this video should remove all doubts as to why a democratically elected PM & his govt were removed. Clearly the US wants an obedient puppet as PM who will not allow Pak choice of neutrality in a European war;
Nancy Pelosi could have impeached Bush for lying about Iraq, or Trump for trying to start a war with Iran-- she did neither. The elites in Washington protect each other and are in alignment on imperialism.

Sad to learn of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s death. He was a pioneer of Pakistan’s nuclear program and contributed immensely to our security. May his soul RIP
