UK university students wasted £1bn in a year on empty accommodation, and the average student has so far paid £1,621 in rent for unrefunded empty rooms.

Students who rent homes from private landlords are unable to rentstrike but still can’t return to homes they’re paying for. They’re just as deserving of having their rent cancelled until the end of lockdown & we call on the government to intervene immediately to ensure this.

A product of further lockdown announcements yesterday is that many students are paying rent for accommodation they’re essentially locked out of. This cannot continue. Students must be reimbursed. Government need to intervene with emergency funding.
