If most cultures are defined by their art and children are taught to proudly display their artwork, then why do parents still worry when their child wants to become an artist?
@catekustanczy@plutoniumpage Understood and do write about the dreaded cz!!! I also realized that the people who were put-off by a foreign name were not the one's I was interested in anyway.
@catekustanczy@plutoniumpage I never got the shrug, just an awkward and painful mangling where everyone winced. I have two Gs in my name, the 1st hard and the 2nd soft, very tricky for non francophones. Perhaps would be easier in Canada?
@catekustanczy@plutoniumpage I always dreaded the first day of school in the US. But here in Austria my French name is pronounced in a German way, and I accept that. Of course, I really can't blame people as my family name is a little too ethnically specific, or maybe just non-anglo. They do try their best..
"What a classical concert is about is the privilege and pleasure of any human to stop the clock just for a second... of going inside and asking ourselves, as listeners and performers, who are we? Why are we here?" My interview w @thomashampson is now up: https://t.co/sfOE3kHZO0
"To me, singing in a way is a high level of meditation, in front of thousands of people." Chatting Haydn, Beethoven, Strauss with soprano @ChenReiss, currently Sophie in @WrStaatsoper's #DerRosenkavalier. https://t.co/I71qzBwIKP
I really enjoyed writing this preview of @bay_staatsoper's new season. Korngold, Freud and the Seven Deaths of Maria Callas! https://t.co/pnjQQS9Nhm @bachtrack
"Carlo Vistoli was magnificent, and his is the most beautiful countertenor voice I have heard on stage, with a timbre sitting right in between feminine and masculine. His interpretation of the role was impressive, having me in tears already... from his very first aria"
@jjohnstonmezzo A well-known artist I know was once asked by a local restaurant if he would 'give' them a large painting of his for the 'exposure'. He replied "Sure, but would you 'give' me your car, with your logo for the 'exposure' since your car is worth about as much as my painting."
@operamagazine An extraordinary singer and a lovely person. Years ago in Santa Fe, I shared a long conversation with her about the commonalities between the visual and music arts . She had so many wonderful insights!
