When Drone Terror Becomes “Normal”

Do drone and missile attacks kill, destroy, and terrorize? You bet they do. Do drones misfire, strike the wrong targets, kill innocent civilians, and cause devastating collateral damage? Far too often.
Abiy Ahmed has reportedly launched drone strikes against Tigray 21 times since the Pretoria Agreement alone. Today, his government again deployed drones, carrying out two rounds of strikes in the Enderta area. Similar drone attacks have been carried out by the hundreds in Amhara and Oromia, killing and injuring many innocent civilians.
Yet the international community signals indifference and remains conspicuously silent. Why? Perhaps because these attacks have largely been one-sided and unanswered. When drone strikes are not reciprocated, they somehow begin to look routine—even legitimate—as though the death and terror they inflict do not warrant statements of concern, urgent calls for restraint, or condemnation.
A drone does not make killing cleaner, less terrifying, or more acceptable. Silence does not make it legitimate either.
The double standard is glaring. Absurdity and hypocrisy at their worst.

His name is Birhanu Kahsay. He used to work at a gas station in the town to support his family.

His funeral is conducted today in Wejerat Bahri Hatsey town.
