Hairspray tip: use flexible hold hairspray while you're creating your updo, and finish with a hard hold spray. Hold it about a foot away and cover your updo to lock in the style!

Working with mannequins is SO different than real people! It's awesome to have a mannequin to work on, but try to get a friend or salon client to try a few techniques out on a real person too.

Products are so important when you are creating styles like this! I great hairspray prep, neat, frizz free curls, and then texturizing spray will help give you this soft, textured curl look that still is clean!

Sometimes I have to dig deep to figure out why I'm making excuses for something....but having a practice of asking myself why I am making an excuse helps me prioritize what's important and actually get things done!

Does figuring out your rates stress you out?? You want to make sure you are covering all of your business costs when creating bridal rates.Admin costs, website, accounting, marketing, and travel... don't forget the extra time it takes to communicate over email with brides!

Whenever you want to do an updo with lots of twists and texture, I recommend getting a great texture product in before you even start. The hair has got to be well prepped so it doesn't get frizzy and out of control!

Don't forget about the front! Often as updo specialists, we can get really caught up in the back! If you want to take a lot of time on the back, and keep your bride feeling calm-do the front first! Then she likes what she sees when she looks in the mirror!

One of my favorite tips for the front of the hair is to use a flat iron. I find that I can have much better control over the curl, and get a nice smooth section close to her hairline.
