From 10 to 11 September 2026 in Gisakura, Dr. Concorde Nsengumuremyi, Director General of @RwandaForestry, chaired the first Multi‑Stakeholder Governance Framework Meeting of the #NaturAfrica Project funded by the European Union, attended by representatives from Government Institutions, District Authorities, Civil Society Organizations, Private Sector Actors, and Development Partners.
Key discussionsfocused on advancing biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable livelihood opportunities across the Nyungwe landscape. A central theme was the promotion of agroforestry, particularly through integrating indigenous tree species into tea plantations.
Stakeholders explored ways to strengthen native tree production and dissemination, enhancing ecosystem resilience while generating tangible benefits for surrounding communities.
The meeting concluded with field visits to Nyungwe Management Company in Gisakura and @Kitabi_College, where partners observed ongoing efforts in ecosystem restoration, research, and community engagement. These exchanges highlighted opportunities to deepen collaboration and foster knowledge sharing among conservationists, researchers, private sector actors, and development leaders.
Supported by @EUinRW, the NaturAfrica Initiative seeks to conserve and restore biodiversity while promoting green economic opportunities for communities living in and around the Nyungwe‑Kibira landscape. By integrating ecological restoration with livelihood development, the project strengthens resilience for both people and nature.

“To the young people, once again, this country expects a lot from you. And when I say the country, I mean you. You are, in fact, waiting for yourselves. You are the future you are looking toward. But it comes back to the process I was talking about, the mindset, the spirit, and everything else I mentioned, education and health. You must have knowledge, and you must have good health. Because if you are not healthy, what use is knowledge? What good is knowing anything if you do not have the health to make use of it? You must have both. And it is entirely possible to have both, if you make the choice to pursue both. It cannot be one without the other.
It is like raising a child, or planting a tree. You plant the seed, and as it grows, you continue giving it what it needs in order to thrive. It is the same with people. You need knowledge, and you should do everything possible to acquire it. But not simply to possess it. You must be able to use that knowledge to achieve the goals you have set for yourselves.” President Kagame, Chairman of the RPF | RPF Bureau Politique.
