everyone needs to eat, but if you were to use a customer service job as an example, the company is gonna meet the person that goes out of their way to say they like dealing with people and solving problems (or w/e equivalent you want to use)

i hate cover letters but companies ask people why they want the job because they want to make sure its something theyll be content in and be less likely to jump from quickly (valid life decision obvi but so is not wanting to fill a job multiple times unnecessarily)
