(every tweet today about small potential fixes will be yelled at and that's ok)
Malachi Lawrence should get more snaps. He's your.....best pass rusher I think.
James Houston should probably be active. And someone else should not. I'll let you guess.
Nearly 3 years ago I was shocked to learn my mom had 16 months to live.
An otherwise healthy 64 year old diagnosed with small cell lung cancer.
I’m about to go on air and talk about the Cowboys run game and my mom sends me a pic of her shaving her head in anticipation of the chemo.
I break down. It’s real. I see her pain and for the first time my mom, my rock-scared.
Bawling, my boss in the control room said “what the hell Jane” I wipe my tears away and say “give me a damn minute. I’ve got this”
I deliver the report and after -to my producers shock- I tell him what happened.
I tried to do live shots, travel and games but I could barely get through a day without worrying that every day doing my job was a day I was losing my mom.
My bosses were incredible at NFLN. Not everyone gets that and I hate that. They made me feel safe enough to walk away at times, turn down assignments and be there for my mom, my father overwhelmed with loss, a scared sister who had beat cancer a few years earlier while getting the help I needed to just level out from the grief, fear and sense nothing mattering all of a sudden.
I stepped away from friends. I slipped into a pretty dark hole and coped in destructive ways but with space and grace found something in her loss and purpose again.
I can’t even get mad at people anymore who didn’t know how to show up or get it because you won’t understand it all until it happens to you or someone close to you.
It showed me that as much as I thought I was mentally resilient, I was more emotionally delicate than I thought. It changes you and changed me.
There’s not a week that goes by that I don’t accidentally call or text and it still doesn’t feel real but I am comforted knowing that I got time, she and my family knew I was there and therefore it was easier to let her go.
I share this not to say woe is me rather I see those of you struggling and I hope a little sharing reframes how you might treat yourself and others.
Thinking of those struggling with this today. It’s ok to be kind. 💕
At a show tonight in DC, Dave Chappelle said that in the “midterms from hell,” after he has been forced to learn what the Strait of Hormuz is, he’s ready to get in the foxhole with his old antagonists. He said he’d turn to the person next to him and say, “Soldier, what are your pronouns? I need some ammunition.”
